2017 Delta State Statesmen Football Team
The 2017 Delta State Statesmen football team represented Delta State University in the 2017 NCAA Division II football season. They were led by fifth-year head coach Todd Cooley. The Statesmen played their home games at McCool Stadium and were members of the Gulf South Conference. Schedule Delta State announced its 2017 football schedule on December 27, 2016 which consists of six home and five away games in the regular season. The Statesmen will host GSC foes Florida Tech, Valdosta State, West Alabama and West Georgia, and will travel to Mississippi College, North Alabama, Shorter, and West Florida. Todd Cooley
Todd Cooley (born September 7, 1975) is an American football coach. He is the head football coach for Delta State University; a position he has held since 2013. Cooley grew up in Nashville, Arkansas and graduated from Arkansas Tech University with a degree in English. At ATU, Cooley started at quarterback from 1996 to 1997 and was a nominee for the Harlon Hill Award. He began his coaching career in 1998 at Arkansas Tech and has also served as an offensive assistant coach at Northeastern State where he received his master's degree, Ouachita Baptist, Central Arkansas and Northwestern State. Clinton, Mississippi
Clinton is a city in Hinds County, Mississippi, United States. Situated in the Jackson metropolitan area, it is the tenth largest city in Mississippi. The population was 28,100 at the 2020 United States census. History Founded in 1823, Clinton was originally known as Mt. Salus, which means "Mountain of health". The Mississippi College Choctaws football team represents Mississippi College. The school's teams are known as the Choctaws. Its major rivals are Millsaps College in nearby Jackson and Delta State in Cleveland, Mississippi in the Delta. The Delta State–Mississippi College football rivalry, commonly known as the Heritage Bell Classic, is a college football rivalry game between a public university and a private Christian college in the U.S. state of Mississippi, the Delta State University Statesmen and the Mississippi College Choctaws. Barron Stadium
Barron Stadium is a 6,500-seat football field and track & field stadium in Rome, Georgia. It is home to the Shorter University Hawks and Rome High School Wolves football teams. The facility hosted the NAIA Football National Championship from 2008-13 and the NCCAA Victory Bowl in 2013-14, as well as the NCCAA track championships from 2014-16. Barron Stadium is owned by the Rome- Floyd Parks and Recreation Authority (RFPRA), a city-county partnership, and has been operated by the Rome City School District since 2015. The Shorter Hawks are the athletic teams that represent Shorter University, located in Rome, Georgia, in intercollegiate sports at the Division II level of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA).
