2016–17 SHL Season
The 2016–17 SHL season is the 42nd season of the Swedish Hockey League (SHL). The regular season began in September 2016 and ended in March 2017. The playoffs follow the conclusion of the regular season. Rögle BK and Leksands IF were forced to play in the SHL qualifiers to defend their SHL status. Rögle won their series against BIK Karlskoga in four games while Leksand lost to Mora IK over six games. Therefore, Mora were promoted to the SHL at the expense of Leksand. Swedish Hockey League
The Swedish Hockey League (officially SHL; sv, Svenska Hockeyligan) is a professional ice hockey league, and the highest division in the Swedish ice hockey system. The league currently consists of 14 teams. The league was founded in 1975, and while Swedish ice hockey champions have been crowned through various formats since 1922, the title and the Le Mat Trophy have been awarded to the winner of the SHL playoffs since the league's inaugural 1975–76 season. In the 2010–11 season, the SHL was the world's most evenly matched professional ice hockey league. During the 2011–12 season, the SHL was the most well attended ice hockey league in Europe, averaging 6,385 spectators per game, however in 2013–14, the SHL was third best in Europe, with an attendance average of 5,978. Djurgårdens IF Hockey
Djurgårdens IF Ishockeyförening – commonly known as Djurgårdens IF, Djurgården Hockey, Djurgården () – is a professional ice hockey team based in Stockholm, Sweden, affiliated with the Djurgårdens IF umbrella organization. Djurgården is currently playing in the Swedish second tier ice hockey league, the HockeyAllsvenskan. Djurgården is the most successful Swedish hockey team of all time, as 16-time Swedish champions, 12-time runners-up, and leaders of the marathon table for the top flight of Swedish hockey. Alexander Bergström
Alexander Bergström (born January 18, 1986) is a Swedish professional ice hockey forward. He is currently playing with Karlskrona HK of the Hockeyettan (Div.1). Playing career Bergström after playing exclusively in the HockeyAllsvenskan belatedly made his Swedish Hockey League debut playing with Karlskrona HK during the 2015–16 SHL season. Jesper Jensen (born 5 February 1987) is a Danish professional ice hockey forward who is currently playing with the Frederikshavn White Hawks of the Metal Ligaen (DEN). Oskar Lindblom
Oskar Lindblom (born 15 August 1996) is a Swedish professional ice hockey forward for the San Jose Barracuda of the American Hockey League (AHL) while under contract to the San Jose Sharks of the National Hockey League (NHL). Early life Lindblom was born on 15 August 1996 in Gävle, Sweden. One of his childhood idols was Washington Capitals player Nicklas Bäckström, also from Gävle. Lindblom's father Johan played for several Swedish hockey teams. Lindblom and his two brothers, Marcus and Linus, began playing hockey at a young age, helped by their father. All three brothers began playing hockey in the Brynäs IF junior ice hockey system. Olli Palola
Olli Palola (born 8 April 1988) is a Finnish professional ice hockey forward who currently plays professionally for Rögle BK of the Swedish Hockey League (SHL). Playing career Palola saw his first action in the Finnish top-flight Liiga during the 2006–07 season, playing six contests for Ilves. He then spent four years with fellow Liiga team Lukko, helping the team to a third-place finish in 2010–11. After having transferred to Tappara, he made it to the 2013 and 2014 Liiga finals with the team. During the 2013-14 campaign, Palola scored 30 goals and dealt out 26 assists in 80 games and was presented with the Aarne Honkavaara Trophy as the league's best goalscorer. He won the award also the following season (2014–15) after tallying 40 goals and 25 assists in 80 games en route to another Liiga runner-up finish. Broc Little (born March 24, 1988) is an American professional ice hockey forward currently playing for Linköping HC of the Swedish Hockey League (SHL). Playing career Little is a graduate of Cushing Academy in Ashburnham, in his freshman year at Cushing he played with the teams leading point scorer - future NHL defenseman Keith Yandle. Prior to turning professional, Little attended Yale University, where he played four seasons with the Yale Bulldogs men's ice hockey team which competes in NCAA's Division I in the ECAC Hockey conference. The IF Malmö Redhawks (colloquially referred to simply as Malmö or by past abbreviation MIF) is a Swedish professional ice hockey team based in Malmö which plays in the SHL, with Malmö Arena as the venue for home games. The history of the team dates back to 1947 as the ice hockey division of the now exclusively football club Malmö FF. Karlskrona HK
Karlskrona HK is a Swedish ice hockey club located in Karlskrona, Sweden, established in 2001. They played three seasons in the top-tier Swedish Hockey League (SHL) between the 2015–16 and 2017–18 seasons. Their home arena is NKT Arena Karlskrona which has a capacity of 5,050 spectators. History Following an impressive 2014–15 season, Karlskrona HK qualified for the SHL, only 14 years after the club was established. Frölunda HC
Frölunda Hockey Club, previously known as the Frölunda Indians, is a Swedish professional ice hockey club based in Gothenburg. They currently play in the highest Swedish league, the Swedish Hockey League (SHL), formerly the Elitserien, where they have played for most of the club's existence. They last played in the lower division, the Allsvenskan, in 1995. Frölunda have won the national championship title five times: in 1965, 2003, 2005, 2016 and 2019.
