2016 Sydney Sevens
The 2016 Sydney Sevens was the fourth tournament of the 2015–16 World Rugby Sevens Series, held over the weekend of 6–7 February 2016 at Sydney Football Stadium in Sydney, Australia. It was the thirteenth edition of the Australian Sevens tournament. The Cup final was won by New Zealand, defeating Australia by 27–24 in front of a sold-out crowd of over 37,000 fans. Fiji defeated South Africa in the third place play-off. Format The teams were divided into pools of four teams each, and a round-robin played within each pool. Points were awarded for each match as 3 for a win, 2 for a draw, 1 for a loss. The top two teams from each pool advanced to the play-offs for the Cup and Plate. 2015–16 World Rugby Sevens Series
The 2015–16 World Rugby Sevens Series, known for sponsorship reasons as the HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series, was the 17th annual series of rugby union sevens tournaments for national men's rugby sevens teams. The Sevens Series has been run by World Rugby since 1999–2000. This season, the series expanded from nine to ten events. 2014 Gold Coast Sevens
The 2014 Gold Coast Sevens was the first tournament of the 2014-15 Sevens World Series. It was held over the weekend of 11–12 October 2014 at Cbus Super Stadium in Queensland, Australia, and was the twelfth completed edition of the Australian Sevens tournament. Format The teams were drawn into four pools of four teams each. Each team played everyone in their pool one time. The top two teams from each pool advanced to the Cup/Plate brackets. Sydney Football Stadium (1988)
The Sydney Football Stadium, commercially known as Allianz Stadium and previously Aussie Stadium, was a football stadium in Moore Park, Sydney, Australia. Built in 1988 next to the Sydney Cricket Ground, the stadium was Sydney's premier rectangular field venue for rugby league, rugby union, and soccer. The Kangaroos, the Wallabies, and the Socceroos occasionally played at the stadium, while the Sydney Roosters, NSW Waratahs, and Sydney FC were the ground's major tenants. The Australia Sevens is an international rugby sevens tournament that was first played in 1986. Currently hosted as the Sydney Sevens, the event is part of the World Rugby Sevens Series. The tournament was held in Brisbane, in Adelaide, and on the Gold Coast in previous seasons. Henry Hutchison
Henry Hutchison (born 12 February 1997) is a professional rugby union player who represents Australia in rugby sevens. Born in Sydney, NSW and playing for Randwick at club level, he debuted for Australia in December 2015. Hutchison attended St Kevin's College, Melbourne and later Saint Ignatius' College, Riverview. He joined the Australian Sevens program in August 2015 after impressing for his local club side Randwick in Sydney's Shute Shield competition. Hutchison was due to represent Australia at the Commonwealth Youth Games in Samoa in September 2015 but such was the impression he made that he was promoted to the senior squad for the pre-season tour to New Zealand. He was part of the 12-man squad that helped Australia qualify for the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio at the Oceania Sevens in November 2015. Sam Myers (born 25 May 1990) is a professional Rugby Union player. He represents Australia in Sevens Rugby. Born in Forbes, New South Wales and playing for Northern Suburbs at a club level, he debuted for Australia in December 2013. As of December 2015, he currently has 17 caps. Rieko Ioane
Rieko Edward Ioane (; born 18 March 1997) is a New Zealand professional rugby union footballer who plays as a wing or as a centre for New Zealand team Blues in Super Rugby and the New Zealand national team. In his youth career, he was selected to play in the 2014 and 2015 Sevens World Series for New Zealand and took part in Auckland Grammar School first XV, the top representative team in secondary school. Tim Mikkelson (born 13 August 1986 in Matamata) is a New Zealand rugby union player. Mikkelson plays for the New Zealand national rugby sevens team and is the most capped player in the team's history, surpassing former captain DJ Forbes record when he played his 90th tournament in Los Angeles in 2020.
