The 2016 Minnesota Republican presidential caucuses took place on March 1 in the U.S. state of Minnesota, during the Super Tuesday contests, as a part of the Republican Party's series of presidential primaries. It is notable because it is the only state that was won by Florida Senator Marco Rubio. It was one of the only states in which Donald Trump got 3rd place. Marco Rubio was considered the favorite to win Minnesota, due to the caucus nature of the contest and the high proportion of college-educated voters. The Democratic Party held its Minnesota caucuses on the same day. 2016 Minnesota Democratic Presidential Caucuses
The 2016 Minnesota Democratic presidential caucuses took place on March 1 in the U.S. state of Minnesota as one of the Democratic Party's primaries ahead of the 2016 presidential election. On the same day, dubbed "Super Tuesday," Democratic primaries were held in ten other states plus American Samoa, while the Republican Party held primaries in eleven states including their own Minnesota caucuses. Opinion polling Results Primary date: March 1, 2016 National delegates: 69 Analysis Bernie Sanders scored an imperative, much-needed victory in the Minnesota caucus, a state he had targeted to keep his path to the nomination alive. With its populist, mostly white electorate, Minnesota was a state seen as favorable to Sanders based on his performance in previous caucus contests, which was only aided by high voter turnout, almost topping the record of 211,000 votes in the 2008 Minnesota Democratic Presidential Primary. Democratic Party (United States)

Founded in 1828, it was predominantly built by Martin Van Buren, who assembled a wide cadre of politicians in every state behind war hero Andrew Jackson, making it the world's oldest active political party.M. Philip Lucas, "Martin Van Buren as Party Leader and at Andrew Jackson's Right Hand." in ''A Companion to the Antebellum Presidents 1837–1861'' (2014): 107–129."The Democratic Party, founded in 1828, is the world's oldest political party" states Its main political rival has been the Republican Party since the 1850s. Educational Attainment In The United States
The educational attainment of the U.S. population refers to the highest level of education completed. The educational attainment of the U.S. population is similar to that of many other industrialized countries with the vast majority of the population having completed secondary education and a rising number of college graduates that outnumber high school dropouts. As a whole, the population of the United States is spending more years in formal educational programs. As with income, levels differ by race, age, household configuration, and geography. Overall, the demographics with the highest educational attainment in the United States are also those with the highest household income and wealth. General attainment of degrees/diplomas In 2018, nearly 9/10 (90 percent) of all adults 25 years or older reported they had completed at least high school, or obtained a GED/high school equivalency certificate. Presidential Caucus
The presidential primary elections and caucuses held in the various states, the District of Columbia, and territories of the United States form part of the nominating process of candidates for United States presidential elections. The United States Constitution has never specified the process; political parties have developed their own procedures over time. Some states hold only primary elections, some hold only caucuses, and others use a combination of both. These primaries and caucuses are staggered, generally beginning sometime in January or February, and ending about mid-June before the general election in November. State and local governments run the primary elections, while caucuses are private events that are directly run by the political parties themselves. A state's primary election or caucus is usually an indirect election: instead of voters directly selecting a particular person running for president, they determine the number of delegates each party's national con ... Republican Party (United States)
The Republican Party, also referred to as the GOP ("Grand Old Party"), is one of the two major contemporary political parties in the United States. The GOP was founded in 1854 by anti-slavery activists who opposed the Kansas–Nebraska Act, which allowed for the potential expansion of chattel slavery into the western territories. Since Ronald Reagan's presidency in the 1980s, conservatism has been the dominant ideology of the GOP. It has been the main political rival of the Democratic Party since the mid-1850s. The Republican Party's intellectual predecessor is considered to be Northern members of the Whig Party, with Republican presidents Abraham Lincoln, Rutherford B. Hayes, Chester A. Arthur, and Benjamin Harrison all being Whigs before switching to the party, from which they were elected.
