2016 English Cricket Season
The 2016 cricket season was the 117th in which the County Championship has been an official competition. The season began in March with a round of university matches, and continued until the conclusion of a round of County Championship matches in late September. Three major men's domestic competitions were contested: the 2016 County Championship, the 2016 Royal London One-Day Cup and the 2016 NatWest t20 Blast. Women's domestic cricket saw the launch of the Women's Cricket Super League, a new franchise competition, and the contesting of the Women's County Championship and Women's Twenty20 Cup. During the season, two men's Test teams toured England. Sri Lanka competed early in the summer, with Pakistan also touring later in the year. 2016 County Championship
The 2016 County Championship (known for sponsorship reasons as the 2016 Specsavers County Championship), was the 117th cricket County Championship season. It was announced in March 2016 that the 2017 season would feature only eight teams in Division One, meaning that only one team would be promoted from Division Two in the 2016 season, whilst two teams were relegated from Division One. Western Storm
Western Storm are a women's cricket team representing South West England and Wales, one of eight regional hubs in English domestic cricket. They play their home matches at the County Ground, Taunton, the County Ground, Bristol and Sophia Gardens. They are captained by Sophie Luff and coached by Trevor Griffin. The team is partnered with Somerset, Gloucestershire, Glamorgan, Devon, Cornwall, Wiltshire and Cricket Wales. Originally formed to compete in the Women's Cricket Super League in 2016, Western Storm won the competition twice, in 2017 and 2019. Brendon McCullum
Brendon Barrie McCullum (born 27 September 1981) is a cricket coach, commentator and former cricketer representing New Zealand, who played all formats, including as captain. McCullum was renowned for his quick scoring, notably recording the fastest test century of all time. He is considered one of the most successful batsmen and captains of New Zealand cricket. He retired from all forms of cricket in August 2019. McCullum is currently serving as the head coach of the England Cricket Test team. Jonny Bairstow
Jonathan Marc Bairstow (born 26 September 1989) is an English cricketer who plays internationally for England in all formats. In domestic cricket, he represents Yorkshire, and has played in multiple Twenty20 leagues, including for Sunrisers Hyderabad and Punjab Kings in the Indian Premier League. Bairstow made his One Day International (ODI) and Twenty20 International (T20I) debuts in 2011, and Test debut in 2012. He was part of the England team that won the 2019 Cricket World Cup. Bairstow plays as a right-handed wicket-keeper-batsman. Ben Duckett
Ben Matthew Duckett (born 17 October 1994) is an English cricketer who plays for Nottinghamshire. He is a left-handed batsman who can play as a wicket-keeper. He made his international debut for England in October 2016. Domestic, under 19 and national career County cricket Duckett made his debut for Northamptonshire in the 2012 Friends Life t20 against Gloucestershire on 8 July 2012, whilst in his first year of A-Levels at Stowe School. Nicole Harvey (; born 18 September 1992) is an English cricketer who currently plays for Somerset, Western Storm and Welsh Fire. She plays primarily as a right-arm leg break bowler, whilst also batting right-handed. She has previously played for Cornwall, Devon and Nottinghamshire. The Warwickshire Women's cricket team is the women's representative cricket team for the English historic county of Warwickshire. They play their home games at Edgbaston Foundation Sports Ground, Birmingham, and are captained by Marie Kelly. In 2019, they won the Women's Twenty20 Cup. 2016 Women's Twenty20 Cup
The 2016 Women's Twenty20 Cup, known for sponsorship reasons as the 2016 NatWest Women's Twenty20 Cup was the 8th cricket Women's Twenty20 Cup tournament. It took place in June and July, with 36 teams taking part: 34 county teams plus Scotland and Wales. Kent Women won the Twenty20 Cup, their third title, and completed the double later in 2016 with their victory in the County Championship. The tournament ran alongside the 50-over 2016 Women's County Championship, and was followed by the inaugural Twenty20 Women's Cricket Super League, competed for by regional teams. Samantha Betts
Samantha Marie Betts (born 6 February 1996) is an Australian cricketer who plays for South Australia. A native of Broken Hill, New South Wales, Betts won selection on the Scorpions' rookie list as a 17-year old schoolgirl for the 2012–13 season, after being spotted by former Australian international player Shelley Nitschke. Kirstie Elizabeth White (born 14 March 1988) is an English cricketer who currently plays for Surrey and South East Stars. She plays as a right-handed batter and occasional wicket-keeper. The Sussex Women's cricket team is the women's representative cricket team for the English historic county of Sussex. They play their home games at various grounds across the county, including Brighton Aldridge Community Academy Sports Ground and the County Cricket Ground, Hove. They are captained by Georgia Adams.
