The following is a list of events relating to television in Ireland from 2015. Events January *1 January – UTV Ireland, the country's first new commercial broadcaster since the launch of TV3 in 1998, goes on air at 7.25pm. Television In Ireland
Television in the Republic of Ireland is available through a variety of platforms. The digital terrestrial television service is known as Saorview and is the primary source of broadcast television since analogue transmissions ended on 24 October 2012. Digital satellite (from Sky Ireland, Saorsat and other European satellite service providers are available) and digital cable (from Virgin Media Ireland) are also widely used. The Irish satellite fill-in service (Saorsat) is via Ka-Sat using the Irish KA band spot and has been available since June 2011. While many people receive their television via Saorview, which is broadcast by 2RN, more than half subscribe to multichannel television networks. The biggest single multichannel television network in Ireland is Sky Ireland, which broadcasts digital satellite television services. UTV (TV Channel)
UTV (formerly Ulster Television, branded on air as ITV1) is the ITV region covering Northern Ireland, ITV subsidiary and the former on-air name of the free-to-air public broadcast television channel serving the area. It is run by ITV plc and is responsible for the regional news service and other programmes made principally for the area. The modern TV channel, ITV, is directly descended from the network of the same name, consisting of independent regional companies which were once the only commercial TV broadcasters in their area. UTV held the licence for Northern Ireland and first went on the air on 31 October 1959. The company itself was formed in November 1958 to apply for the licence – advertised by the Independent Television Authority – and became the first indigenous broadcaster in Northern Ireland. Good Morning Britain (2014)
''Good Morning Britain'' (often abbreviated to ''GMB'') is a British breakfast television programme that is broadcast on ITV. It debuted on 28 April 2014 and is broadcast live every weekday from 6:00am to 9:00am across Britain and Northern Ireland. The programme features a variety of news, interviews, politics, sport, entertainment, competitions and weather as well as local news bulletins delivered by the ITV regions. Format The magazine-style show includes headline updates at the beginning of the programme and at the top of each hour thereafter, then three short three-minute regional bulletins at quarter past the hour featuring news, travel/transit advisories, and weather. ITV (TV Network)
ITV is a British free-to-air public broadcast television network. It was launched in 1955 as Independent Television to provide competition to BBC Television (established in 1936). ITV is the oldest commercial network in the UK. Since the passing of the Broadcasting Act 1990, it has been legally known as Channel 3 to distinguish it from the other analogue channels at the time, BBC1, BBC2 and Channel 4. ITV was for four decades a network of separate companies which provided regional television services and also shared programmes between each other to be shown on the entire network. Martin King (weather Presenter)
Martin King (born 7 April 1963) is an Irish broadcaster who was the Monday to Thursday co-host of ''The Six O'Clock Show'' on Virgin Media One (formerly TV3) and presents his own radio show on Saturday Mid Morning on Q102. King was TV3's first ever weather anchor when it launched back in 1998. Career King got involved in radio when he was 15 years old working for pirate radio stations including Big D and Sunshine 101. He joined 98FM when it launched in 1989 where he was one of their main on-air personalities before becoming TV3's weather anchor when it launched on 20 September 1998. King also had his own Saturday morning show on Today FM from 2002 until 2017. King's personality-driven style of weather forecasting on TV3 won King many awards and he was one of the main features of TV3's news presentation. Lucy Kennedy ( ga, Lusaí Ní Chinnéide; born 21 April 1976) is an Irish television and radio presenter. Kennedy first came to public attention from co-hosting ''The Podge and Rodge Show'' on RTÉ Two. She has also presented dating show ''The Ex-Files'', the celebrity show ''Livin' with Lucy'', her own chat show ''The Lucy Kennedy Show'' and the reality boxing show ''Charity Lords of the Ring''. ''Late Lunch Live'' was an Irish afternoon television show on TV3. It premiered live on 30 September 2013 airing every Monday to Friday from 14:00. By 2014 the show was moved to a new timeslot of 15:30 to 16:30. The program features news and weather updates, showbiz, fashion, beauty, food, health and lifestyle. Its in-studio presenters are Lucy Kennedy, Martin King and previously reporter Claire Solan took part in the show. 2015 Irish Constitutional Referendums
The government of Ireland held referendums on 22 May 2015 on two proposed amendments to the Constitution of Ireland which had been recommended by the Constitutional Convention. The amendment to permit same-sex marriage in the Republic of Ireland was approved by 62%-38% of the voters. The other amendment would have reduced the age of candidacy for the President of Ireland from 35 to 21, but voters rejected it by 73%-27%. A Dáil by-election in Carlow–Kilkenny was held on the same day. Other amendments were considered but not proceeded with, including reducing the voting age from 18 to 16, and sanctioning the establishment of a Unified Patent Court. Cork (city)
Cork ( , from , meaning 'marsh') is the second largest city in Ireland and third largest city by population on the island of Ireland. It is located in the south-west of Ireland, in the province of Munster. Following an extension to the city's boundary in 2019, its population is over 222,000. ''The Restaurant'' is reality television programme produced by Vision Independent Productions in Ireland. Marie Cassidy
Marie Therese Jane Cassidy (born 1955) is a pathologist and academic. From 2004 to 2018 she was State Pathologist of Ireland, the first woman to hold the position. She is Professor of Forensic Medicine at the Royal College of Surgeons of Ireland and Trinity College, Dublin. Early life and education Marie Cassidy was born in Rutherglen, Glasgow, Scotland, in 1955. She is the granddaughter of emigrants from Donegal. She lives in London and is married with two children. Cassidy studied medicine at the University of Glasgow, graduating in January 1978.
