2014 Papua New Guinea National Soccer League
The 2014 Papua New Guinea National Soccer League season, known as the Telikom NSL Cup for sponsorship reasons, was the eighth edition of the Papua New Guinea National Soccer League. The title was won by Hekari United, who won their eighth and, to date, final title, after going unbeaten throughout the season and being awarded the title in the final after the match against Lae FC was abandoned due to crowd violence. Teams There were seven teams in the competition, one fewer than the previous season. The previous season's runners-up FC Port Moresby were excluded from the competition after failing to submit the necessary paperwork on time, with the club taking the PNGFA and the NSL to court over the whole procedure. Last year's debutants WNB Tavur were also excluded, while Welgris Highlanders withdrew. They were replaced by Admiralty FC from Manus Province, and Lae FC. Format Seven teams played in the league. Papua New Guinea National Soccer League
The KPHL National Soccer League, also known as the Kumul Petroleum Holdings Limited National Soccer League for sponsorship reasons, is the men's top division of professional soccer in Papua New Guinea. It is a nationwide league formed in 2006 by Papua New Guinea Football Association. It replaced the Papua New Guinea National Club Championship as the country's major soccer competition. In its 13 seasons, the competition has been won by only two clubs: Hekari United won the first eight editions, while Lae City have won the last six. The two clubs have met in two Grand Finals, in 2015–16 and 2019, with Lae City winning both. Sir Ignatius Kilage Stadium
The Sir Ignatius Kilage Sports Stadium is an association football stadium located in Lae, Papua New Guinea. It was named after Sir Ignatius Kilage who was the fourth Governor General of Papua New Guinea. The stadium, which is part of the larger Sir Ignatius Kilage Sports Complex, features 500 grandstand seats plus an additional 1,000 bench seats. Hekari United, formerly known as POM Souths, Souths United, PRK Souths United and Hekari Souths United, is a professional football club formed in 2006, based in Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea.
