The Arches (Glasgow)
The Arches was a bar, arts venue, theatre, live music venue and nightclub in Glasgow, Scotland, which first opened in 1991. It was a not-for-profit organisation, and was situated in the City Centre under Glasgow Central station and the West Coast Main Line in the brick arches of the viaduct leading into the station, with entrances on Midland Street, and (since 2001) an entrance underneath Hielanman's Umbrella on Argyle Street. The venue had of floor space which was spread over two floors and seven arches. In June 2015, The Arches announced on their website that the company would go into administration and had no choice but to close down the facility, after its licensing hours had been curtailed. Conor Meechan
Conor Meechan (born 1993) is a Scottish film editor. He is best known for editing the film, The Groundsman which earned him the Best Editor accolade at the 2014 British Academy Scotland New Talent Awards. Life and career Conor studied Digital Film and Television at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland. During his time there, he edited The Groundsman, the graduation film of fellow student Jonny Blair. His work on the film was widely praised and in 2014, he went on to win the Best Editor accolade at the 2014 British Academy Scotland New Talent Awards. He went on to study at the National Film and Television School where he won the Avid Award for Excellence in Editing for his work on the short film ''Fake News Fairytale''. British Academy Scotland Awards
The British Academy Scotland Awards are presented annually at an awards ceremony organised by BAFTA Scotland. History The annual British Academy Scotland Awards were launched in 2004 to recognise outstanding achievement by individuals working in the Film and Television industry in Scotland. A long list of potential nominees is put to a popular vote of BAFTA Scotland members. A jury of industry professionals vote for the overall winner from the short list created by the members. A members of the BAFTA Scotland Committee will chair each of the juries. The awards were cancelled in 2010 and prizes at the 2011 ceremony given for films released over the previous 2 years.
