The 2013–14 Gibraltar Premier Division (known as the Argus Insurance Premier Division for sponsorship reasons) is the 115th season of the national amateur football league in Gibraltar since its establishment - the highest level of football in Gibraltar. The league was expanded this season, and will be contested by eight clubs, a requirement for entry into UEFA competitions. The season began on October 7, 2013 with Glacis United defeating Lions Gibraltar 3-2. Lincoln are the defending league champions, having sealed their 11th successive title win in 2012-13. Gibraltar Premier Division
The Gibraltar Premier Division was a football league established by the Gibraltar Football Association (GFA) in 1905, and the top tier of football in Gibraltar. It originally contained eight member clubs, but it has grown over the years. In 1909 the league was split into two divisions between which clubs can be promoted and relegated at the end of each season. In the 2013–14 season, the Premier Division contained eight clubs with the Second Division containing 12 clubs. For sponsorship reasons it is known as the Argus Insurance Premier Division. From the 2014–15 season, as a result of the territory's membership of UEFA, the champions entered the first UEFA Champions League qualifying round. The winners of Gibraltar's cup competition, the Rock Cup, meanwhile, gained entry to the following season's UEFA Europa League qualifying rounds. Gibraltar Second Division
The Gibraltar Second Division was the second tier of football in the British Overseas Territory of Gibraltar, run by the Gibraltar Football Association (GFA). The league was founded in 1909 after the expansion of the Gibraltar Premier Division and as of the 2016-17 season contains 10 clubs. All of the sides competing are amateur. Teams in this division, along with the Gibraltar U-15 national team, enter the Rock Cup in the first round except for 3 clubs who receive byes to the second round. Promotion was not regular until 2007-08 due to the prevalence of reserve teams in the division. As of the 2016-17 season, league champions are automatically promoted, and the runners up enter a play-off with the second-from-bottom team in the Gibraltar Premier Division. Joseph Chipolina
Joseph Louis Chipolina (born 14 December 1987) is a Gibraltar international footballer who plays for Glacis United of the Gibraltar Football League, on loan from Lincoln Red Imps as a left back or left winger. He is his nation's third most-capped player of all time, having also played the first 27 official matches after Gibraltar were accepted into UEFA. Club career Chipolina began his career with Linense of the Spanish Segunda División B and Tercera División, the third and fourth tier of the Spanish football league system respectively, between 2007 and 2012.
