2013 Cavan Senior Football Championship
The 2013 Cavan Senior Football Championship was the 105th edition of Cavan GAA's premier club Gaelic football tournament for senior graded teams in County Cavan, Ireland. The tournament consists of 17 teams, with the winner going on to represent Cavan in the Ulster Senior Club Football Championship. Mullahoran were the defending champions, but exited the championship to Cavan Gaels at the quarter-final stage. Ballinagh defeated a fancied Cavan Gaels side in the final to claim their first Senior title. Team changes The following teams have changed division since the 2013 championship season. Cavan Senior Football Championship
The Cavan Senior Football Championship is an annual Gaelic Athletic Association club competition between the top Cavan Gaelic football clubs. It was first competed for in 1888. The winners get the Oliver Plunkett Cup and qualifies to represent their county in the Ulster Club Championship and in turn, go on to the All-Ireland Senior Club Football Championship. Cornafean have won the most titles, having been victorious 20 times. The current Senior football champions are Gowna after beating Killygarry in the final of 2022. Format 12 teams will contest the Hotel Kilmore Senior Football Championship. The championship shall be run on a league basis up to the Quarter-Final stage and Knock-out thereafter. Each team will play 4 rounds in the league phase against different opponents with the fixtures decided by a random draw at the conclusion of each round. Castlerahan GAA
Castlerahan is a Gaelic football club from Ballyjamesduff, County Cavan, Ireland. They take their name from the Castlerahan barony in which Ballyjamesduff is located. History The club was founded in its current state in 1961, Ballyjamesduff and Castlerahan fielding separate teams prior to then. The club reached its first Senior Championship final in 1968, losing to Crosserlough. In 2011, the club reached its first senior final since 1968. They lost the final heavily to Cavan Gaels. It was four years before Castlerahan reached another county final against Kingscourt Stars in 2015. Castlerahan came up one point short on that occasion. Castlerahan lost further finals to neighbours Ramor United after a replay in 2016, and to Cavan Gaels again in 2017. Castlerahan played in their fourth consecutive final in 2018, facing Crosserlough. Drumalee GFC
Drumalee are a Gaelic football club from County Cavan in Ireland. They are affiliated to Cavan GAA. History On 19 January 1935, the Anglo-Celt recorded the birth of Drumalee club as follows, it grew out of an informal meeting at Drumalee Cross where it was decided to start a club. The club was affiliated at the 1935 county convention and Charlie O'Reilly, Drumherrish, was its delegate to the county board. That year it entered a club in the junior championship which was run on a home and away league basis. Lacken, Kilmore, Butlersbridge and Ashgrove were in their division. The first outing of the club was against Lacken. They wore all-white jerseys and were afterwards frequently referred to in match reports as the 'Lily Whites'. Drumgoon GFC
Drumgoon are a Gaelic football club from County Cavan in Ireland. They are affiliated to Cavan GAA. History Originated as Bough Shamrocks in 1904, Drumgoon evolved as the parish team, then as the rural parish team, taking the name of Drumgoon in the 1920s. They contested their first Cavan Senior Football Championship Final in 1927, and were defeated by Cavan Slashers. They adopted the title of Drumgoon Éire Óg in 1984. In 2000 Drumgoon lost the Cavan Junior Football Championship to Cornafean but a year later in 2001 Drumgoon won their first Championship winning the Cavan Junior Football Championship, beating Kildallon 1–10 to 0–07. Ramor United GFC
Ramor United are a Gaelic football club from Virginia, County Cavan in Ireland. They are affiliated to Cavan GAA. History The Story of Ramor United began in 1971, when the 3 clubs in the parish – Maghera McFinns, Lurgan GFC and Virginia Blues – amalgamated for the Senior Championship only. This coming-together cumulated in the Senior Championship coming to the parish of Lurgan as a whole for the first time in 1974. Following from this, a new sense of parish effort evolved. A well-attended meeting in the courthouse in Virginia in 1976, under the chairmanship of County Board Chairman, Paddy C Donoghue, saw the very large enthusiastic crowd from all corners of the parish favouring a more permanent alliance, namely Ramor United GFC, as a single parish club. Breffni Park, known for sponsorship reasons as Kingspan Breffni, is a GAA stadium in Cavan, Ireland. It is the home of Cavan GAA. The ground has an overall capacity of about 25,030 with a 5,030 seated capacity. Breffni is the historic name for area of Cavan/ Leitrim. Cavan is often referred to as the Breffni County. Kingspan Breffni is located on Park Lane to the south of Cavan town. Breffni Park hosted the first test in the 2006 Ladies' International Rules Series between Ireland and Australia. Lacken Celtic GFC
Lacken are a Gaelic football club from County Cavan in Ireland. They are affiliated to Cavan GAA. History Lacken Celtic GFC was formed in the 1890s by men who returned from working overseas in Scotland. The club got its name in honour of the Glasgow Celtic Soccer Club and the team wore the green and white jerseys synonymous with the Celtic club. At the time, the home pitch was known as "The Green" and was located on the banks of the River Erne (beside Scarvey Bridge, Corlismore).
