Drumalee GFC
Drumalee are a Gaelic football club from County Cavan in Ireland. They are affiliated to Cavan GAA. History On 19 January 1935, the Anglo-Celt recorded the birth of Drumalee club as follows, it grew out of an informal meeting at Drumalee Cross where it was decided to start a club. The club was affiliated at the 1935 county convention and Charlie O'Reilly, Drumherrish, was its delegate to the county board. That year it entered a club in the junior championship which was run on a home and away league basis. Lacken, Kilmore, Butlersbridge and Ashgrove were in their division. The first outing of the club was against Lacken. They wore all-white jerseys and were afterwards frequently referred to in match reports as the 'Lily Whites'. They wore hand-knitted woollen jerseys and one old veteran who wore this white jersey with distinction recalled that on a hot day 'you would suffocate in it and after it was washed once or twice it wouldn't fit a child'. Cavan ( ; ) is the county town of County Cavan in Ireland. The town lies in Ulster, near the border with County Fermanagh in Northern Ireland. The town is bypassed by the main N3 road that links Dublin (to the south) with Enniskillen, Ballyshannon and Donegal Town (to the north). Gaelic Football
Gaelic football ( ga, Peil Ghaelach; short name '), commonly known as simply Gaelic, GAA or Football is an Irish team sport. It is played between two teams of 15 players on a rectangular grass pitch. The objective of the sport is to score by kicking or punching the ball into the other team's goals (3 points) or between two upright posts above the goals and over a crossbar above the ground (1 point). Players advance the football up the field with a combination of carrying, bouncing, kicking, hand-passing, and soloing (dropping the ball and then toe-kicking the ball upward into the hands). In the game, two types of scores are possible: points and goals. A point is awarded for kicking or hand-passing the ball over the crossbar , signalled by the umpire raising a white flag. The Cavan County Board ( ga, Cumann Lúthchleas Gael Coiste Chontae an Chabháin) or Cavan GAA is one of the 32 county boards of the Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA) in Ireland, and is responsible for the administration of Gaelic games in County Cavan. The County Board is responsible for preparing the Cavan county teams in the various Gaelic sporting codes; football, hurling, camogie and handball. Lacken Celtic GFC
Lacken are a Gaelic football club from County Cavan in Ireland. They are affiliated to Cavan GAA. History Lacken Celtic GFC was formed in the 1890s by men who returned from working overseas in Scotland. The club got its name in honour of the Glasgow Celtic Soccer Club and the team wore the green and white jerseys synonymous with the Celtic club. At the time, the home pitch was known as "The Green" and was located on the banks of the River Erne (beside Scarvey Bridge, Corlismore). The club did go out of existence however for a few years before being reformed in 1907. 1908 Senior Championship The GAA was only in existence for 24 years when Lacken won their first and only senior championship. Butlersbridge GFC
Butlersbridge (), also Butler's Bridge, is a village in County Cavan in Ireland, north of Cavan town just off the N3 national primary road. It was previously a through-point on the N3, but was bypassed in 1999. The bridge in the village crosses the River Annalee, a tributary of the River Erne. Butlersbridge Church is dedicated to the local St. Aiden. It is about via the N54 to the border with County Fermanagh in Northern Ireland. History The history of the Butlersbridge dates back around 6000 years to the Neolithic when farming arrived. Cavan Intermediate Football Championship
The Cavan Intermediate Football Championship is an annual Gaelic Athletic Association competition between the middle-tier Gaelic football clubs organised by Cavan GAA. It was first competed for in 1915, before a lapse prior to being revived in 1966. The winners qualify to represent their county in the Ulster Intermediate Club Football Championship and in turn, go on to the All-Ireland Intermediate Club Football Championship. The 2022 champions are Castlerahan who beat Ballyhaise in the final. Format 14 teams will contest the Hotel Kilmore Intermediate Football Championship. The I.F.C. shall be run on a league basis up to the Quarter-Final stage and Knock-out thereafter. Each team will play 4 rounds in the league phase against different opponents with the fixtures decided by a random draw at the conclusion of each round. Arva GAA
Arva St Patrick's is a Gaelic football club based in Arvagh, County Cavan, Ireland. History The Arva Davitt's club was founded in 1888. The club's first championship success came in 1933, winning the Cavan Junior Football Championship. The Davitt's club and the neighbouring Cormore club joined in 1964 to form the Arva St Patrick's club, and went on to win the Cavan Intermediate Football Championship in 1972. The club added a further title at intermediate level in 1983 and the Junior Championship in 1993. A young Arva team reached the final of the Junior Championship in 2013, losing by a point to Kill. Drumlane Sons of O’Connell is a Gaelic football club based in Milltown, County Cavan, Ireland. The club takes its name from the parish of Drumlane. The club's crest features the Drumlane Abbey and Round tower. History Drumlane GAA was founded in 1888, and won the Cavan Senior Football Championship four times in the early 1900s.
