2013 Basilicata Regional Election
The Basilicata regional election of 2013 took place on 17–18 November 2013. A snap election was called upon the resignation of the incumbent President, Vito De Filippo of the Democratic Party (Italy), Democratic Party (PD), on 24 April 2013 and the subsequent dissolution of the Regional Council. Several regional ministers and councillors had been involved in an expenses scandal (and one minister and two councillors had been arrested). Basilicata is a traditional stronghold of the PD, thus Marcello Pittella (a former Italian Socialist Party, Socialist and brother of Gianni Pittella, Vice President of the European Parliament) was elected President by a landslide 59.6% of the vote. Its main opponent, Tito Di Maggio of Civic Choice (supported by the whole centre-right, comprising The People of Freedom and the Union of the Centre (2002), Union of the Centre), gained a mere 19.4%. Regional Council Of Basilicata
The Regional Council of Basilicata (''Consiglio Regionale della Basilicata'') is the legislative assembly of Basilicata. It was first elected in 1970, when the ordinary regions were instituted, on the basis of the Constitution of Italy of 1948. Composition The Regional Council of Basilicata was originally composed of 30 regional councillors. Following the decree-law n. 138 of 13 August 2011 the number of regional councillors was reduced to 20, with an additional seat reserved for the President of the Region. Centre-left Coalition (Italy)
The centre-left coalition ( it, coalizione di centro-sinistra) is an alliance of political parties in Italy active, under several forms and names, since 1995 when The Olive Tree was formed under the leadership of Romano Prodi. The centre-left coalition has ruled the country for more than 15 years between 1996 and 2022. In the 1996 general election The Olive Tree consisted of the majority of both the left-wing Alliance of Progressives and the centrist Pact for Italy, the two losing coalitions in the 1994 general election, the first under a system based primarily on first-past-the-post voting. The Workers' Communist Party (Italian: ''Partito Comunista dei Lavoratori'', PCL) is a communist party in Italy. It was created in 2006 by the Trotskyist breakaway wing of the Communist Refoundation Party led by Marco Ferrando. Communist Refoundation Party
The Communist Refoundation Party ( it, Partito della Rifondazione Comunista, PRC) is a communist political party in Italy that emerged from a split of the Italian Communist Party (PCI) in 1991. The party's secretary is Maurizio Acerbo, who replaced Paolo Ferrero in 2017. Armando Cossutta was the party's founder, while Fausto Bertinotti its longest-serving leader (1994–2008). The latter transformed the PRC from a traditional communist party into a collection of radical social movements. The PRC is a member of the Party of the European Left (PEL), of which Bertinotti was the inaugural president in 2004. Left Ecology Freedom ( it, Sinistra Ecologia Libertà, SEL) was a democratic socialist political party in Italy whose bulk was formed by former members of the Communist Refoundation Party. The Five Star Movement ( it, Movimento 5 Stelle , M5S) is a political party in Italy. Its leader and president is Giuseppe Conte, Prime Minister of Italy from 2018 until 2021. The M5S was founded on 4 October 2009 by Beppe Grillo, a comedian and blogger, and Gianroberto Casaleggio, a web strategist. From 2014 to 2017, it was a member of the Europe of Freedom and Direct Democracy group in the European Parliament, along with the UK Independence Party and minor Eurosceptic parties. Moderates in Revolution ( it, Moderati in Rivoluzione, MIR) is a political association founded in 2012 by the lawyer, banker and entrepreneur Gianpiero Samorì. MIR is currently an associate party of Us with Italy, of whose executive committee Samorì is a member. In the 2013 general election the party presented its lists in the centre-right coalition and obtained the 0.24% of the vote for the Chamber of Deputies and the 0.22% of the vote for the Senate, gaining no seats. In May Walter Ferrazza, a MIR member, was appointed Undersecretary in Enrico Letta's coalition government.
