The United Populars (''Popolari Uniti'') is a regional Centrist and Christian-democratic political party based in Basilicata, Italy. The party was founded in February 2008 by splinters from the UDEUR who wanted to continue the alliance with the centre-left governing coalition, both locally and nationally. They included Antonio Potenza (regional minister), Gaetano Fierro and Luigi Scaglione, all three regional deputies of Basilicata, and several provincial and municipal ministers, including Carmine Nigro, President of the Province of Matera. 2013 Basilicata Regional Election
The Basilicata regional election of 2013 took place on 17–18 November 2013. A snap election was called upon the resignation of the incumbent President, Vito De Filippo of the Democratic Party (Italy), Democratic Party (PD), on 24 April 2013 and the subsequent dissolution of the Regional Council. Several regional ministers and councillors had been involved in an expenses scandal (and one minister and two councillors had been arrested). Basilicata is a traditional stronghold of the PD, thus Marcello Pittella (a former Italian Socialist Party, Socialist and brother of Gianni Pittella, Vice President of the European Parliament) was elected President by a landslide 59.6% of the vote. The Senate of the Republic ( it, Senato della Repubblica), or simply the Senate ( it, Senato), is the upper house of the bicameral Italian Parliament (the other being the Chamber of Deputies). A snap election was held in Italy on 13–14 April 2008. Carmine Nigro (politician)
Carmine Nigro ( ; January 2, 1910 – August 16, 2001) was former World Champion Bobby Fischer's first chess teacher, from 1951 to 1956. Biography "Mr. Nigro was possibly not the best player in the world, but he was a very good teacher." – Bobby Fischer Nigro was an American chess expert of near master strength and an instructor. Nigro was President of the Brooklyn Chess Club. This is where he met Bobby Fischer and in 1951 became his first chess teacher. Nigro ( rated 2028) hosted Fischer's first chess tournament at his home in 1952. Nigro introduced Fischer to future grandmaster William Lombardy, and, starting in September 1954, Lombardy began coaching Fischer in private.
