2012 V8 Supercar Season
The 2012 V8 Supercar season was the sixteenth year in which V8 Supercars have contested the premier Australian Touring car racing series. It was the 53rd year of touring car racing in Australia since the first running of the Australian Touring Car Championship, now known as the International V8 Supercars Championship, and the Armstrong 500, the fore-runner of the present day Bathurst 1000. The season began on 1 March at the Adelaide Street Circuit and concluded on 2 December at the Homebush Street Circuit. It featured the sixteenth V8 Supercar Championship, contested over 30 races at 15 events. Thirteen of these events were held in the six states and the Northern Territory of Australia, and single events were staged in New Zealand and the United Arab Emirates. The Supercars Championship is a touring car racing category in Australia, running as an International Series under Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA) regulations, governing the sport. Supercars events take place in all Australian states and the Northern Territory, with the Australian Capital Territory formerly holding the Canberra 400. Will Davison
William 'THE SOOK' Davison (born 30 August 1982) is an Australian professional racing driver. He currently drives the No.17 Ford Mustang GT for Dick Johnson Racing in the Repco Supercars Championship. Davison is a two-time winner of the Bathurst 1000, in 2009 and 2016. Early career Having won the Victorian title in 2000, Davison won the 2001 Australian Formula Ford Championship, competing against future IndyCar driver Will Power and Leanne Ferrier. Open-wheel career European campaign Taking a common route to Formula One, Davison packed up and moved to Buckinghamshire in England where he competed in the 2002 British Formula Renault Championship, finishing fourth in the series. Falken Tasmania Challenge
The Tasmania SuperSprint (formally known as the NED Whisky Tasmania SuperSprint) is an annual motor racing event for Supercars, held at Symmons Plains Raceway in Launceston, Tasmania. The event has been a regular part of the Supercars Championship—and its previous incarnations, the Australian Touring Car Championship, Shell Championship Series and V8 Supercars Championship—since 1969. Behind Sandown Raceway, which has most commonly hosted the Sandown 500 and Sandown SuperSprint, Symmons Plains has hosted the most events in championship history with 49 as of 2022. Prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, the only hiatus for the event was between 2000 and 2003 during which the circuit received a A$3 million upgrade. 2012 V8 Supercars Albert Park Challenge
The 2012 V8 Supercars Albert Park Challenge was a motor race for the Australian sedan-based V8 Supercars. It was a stand-alone event not part of the 2012 International V8 Supercars Championship but it was attended by all of the International Championship's teams. The event was held as the principal support event of the 2012 Australian Grand Prix. The event was won by Ford Performance Racing's lead-driver Mark Winterbottom after winning the qualifying race and the second and third races of the event. Fifth place in the final race was enough to claim a two-point win over Shane van Gisbergen of Stone Brothers Racing despite Van Gisbergen winning the fourth race. Mark Winterbottom
Mark "Frosty" Winterbottom (born 20 May 1981) is an Australian professional racing driver. He currently competes in the Repco Supercars Championship, driving the No. 18 Holden ZB Commodore for Team 18. His career highlights include winning the 2013 Supercheap Auto Bathurst 1000 (with Steven Richards), twice winning the Sandown 500 (2006 and 2015) and receiving the Mike Kable Young Gun Award in 2003. Winterbottom has also won his maiden championship title in the 2015 International V8 Supercars Championship, making it the first title for Ford in five years. The Supercars Challenge (known for sponsorship reasons as the Coates Hire Supercars Challenge, and previously known under various other names) was an annual non-championship motor racing event held for cars from the Supercars Championship, and formerly from V8 Supercars, the Shell Championship Series and the Australian Touring Car Championship. The event is held on the Albert Park Circuit in Albert Park, Victoria, Australia as a support event to the Australian Grand Prix.
