2012 Speedway World Cup
The 2012 FIM Speedway World Cup (SWC) was the twelfth FIM Speedway World Cup, the annual international speedway world championship tournament. It took place between 7 July and 14 July 2012 and involved eight national teams. Six teams were seeded through to the tournament and two qualification rounds were held in April and May 2012 to determine the final place. As host nation, Sweden were seeded to the Final. Qualification {, width=100% , rowspan=2 width=50% valign=top, The top six nations from the 2011 Speedway World Cup (Poland, Australia, Sweden, Denmark, Russia and Great Britain) were granted automatic qualification with Sweden given a birth in the final as host nation. The remaining two places were divided among two qualifying rounds. Qualifying Round One was hosted in Herxheim, Germany, and Qualifying Round Two was hosted in Ljubljana, Slovenia. Speedway World Cup
The Speedway World Cup is an annual motorcycle speedway, speedway event held each year in different countries. The first edition of the competition in the current format was held in 2001 and replaced the old Speedway World Team Cup, World Team Cup which ran from 1960 until 2000. The last edition was in 2017. From 2018, the World Cup was replaced by the Speedway of Nations, which effectively brought back the pairs format. However, in 2023 the World Cup will return. Format The final tournament usually lasted for about a week with four meetings held in six or seven days. It started with two first round "events", each consisting of four national teams. The winners of these events qualified automatically for the final, while those who finished second and third competed in the race-off. Last place finishers were eliminated. Stéphane Trésarrieu (born 27 February 1975) is a former motorcycle racer from France, who competed in Grasstrack, Longtrack and motorcycle speedway. He is a three times speedway champion of France and eight times grasstrack champion of France. Career Stéphane raced in Britain in 2003, when he rode for the Isle of Wight Islanders during the 2003 Premier League speedway season. He won seven French caps. David Bellego (born 15 May 1993 in Marmande) is a French motorcycle speedway rider, who competes in Grasstrack, Longtrack and Speedway. He is four times champion of France. Tero Aarnio
Tero Kalevi Aarnio (born 17 April 1984) is a Finnish motorcycle speedway rider. Career Aarnio was a member of Finland team at 2007 Speedway World Cup. This led to his signing for Berwick Bandits for the 2008 and 2009 seasons. He then joined Scunthorpe Scorpions in 2010 and 2011 and Workington Comets in 2012 and 2013 He then spent the 2014 and 2015 seasons with Glasgow and Newcastle respectively, the 2016 season with Scunthorpe and returned to Newcastle in 2018. In 2019 he rode for Birmingham. After medalling six times at the Finnish Individual Speedway Championship he finally won the national title, when winning the 2020 Finnish Individual Speedway Championship to become champion of Finland. Timo Lahti (born 16 July 1992) is a speedway rider from Finland. Career Lahti started his British career riding for the Eastbourne Eagles in 2011. He became the national champion of Finland after winning the Finnish Individual Speedway Championship in 2012. After a total of four seasons at Eastbourne he left after the 2014 season. He won a further five national championships from 2015 to 2019 consecutively before being deposed by Tero Aarnio.
