2012 IAAF World Indoor Championships – Women's Triple Jump
The women's triple jump at the 2012 IAAF World Indoor Championships took place March 9 and 10 at the Ataköy Athletics Arena. Ageless wonder 39-year-old Yamilé Aldama improved upon her already pending W35 World Record in qualifying. In the second attempt of the finals, she exceeded the existing record by 31 cm, which also proved to good enough for the win. While this competition is indoors, since 2000 IAAF rules allow for indoor records to count for overall (outdoor) records. Keila Costa
Keila da Silva Costa (born 6 February 1983) is a Brazilian long jumper and triple jumper. She has competed in three Olympic Games, 2004, 2008 and 2012, and has reached the final round both there and in World Championships and World Indoor Championships. She is the South American record holder in triple jump with 14.58 metres, and has 6.88 metres in the long jump. Both results were achieved in 2007. Early career She was born in Abreu e Lima near Recife, and took up athletics at the age of nine. It was not the easiest of things to become an international athlete, as the city of Abreu e Lima did not sport a rubber track; also she came from a "humble family". Yargelis Savigne Herrera (born 13 November 1984 in Niceto Pérez, Guantanamo) is a Cuban athlete competing in the triple jump and long jump. Her international breakthrough came in 2005, when she, competing in both the triple and long jump events at the 2005 World Championships, won a silver medal and finished fourth, respectively. She continued her form throughout the year to place third at the World Athletics Final with 14.81. She won a gold medal at the 2007 World Championships in the triple jump, with a distance of 15.28 m. At the 2008 World Indoor Championships, Savigne lay in second before her final attempt, with an area record of 14.95 m, behind Hrysopiyi Devetzi's Greek record of 15.00 m.
