Camrose, Alberta
Camrose ( ) is a city in central Alberta, Canada that is surrounded by Camrose County. Located along Highway 13 it had its beginnings as a railroad hub. History The area around Camrose was first settled by Europeans around 1900. At that time the nearby settlement of Wetaskiwin was a major centre for pioneers; typically, it was the last stopping-off point before they set out in search of nearby land. The site that was to be Camrose was about a day's journey from Wetaskiwin along the railroad, which made it a popular place on the route of pioneers. Soon businessmen and other settlers arrived to stay. The settlers came primarily from Scandinavian countries, such as Norway and Sweden, and many settlers also came from the United States. At that time the settlement was known as the hamlet of Stoney Creek. A warren is a network of wild rodent or lagomorph, typically rabbit burrows. Domestic warrens are artificial, enclosed establishment of animal husbandry dedicated to the raising of rabbits for meat and fur. Matthew "Matt" Ng (born January 4, 1986 in Calgary, Alberta) is a Canadian curler from Calgary, Alberta. He currently plays lead on Team Charley Thomas. Career Youth Ng was a member of Team Alberta at the 2003 Canada Winter Games, where he won a bronze medal. Ng, who was a member of the J. D. Lind junior rink, was invited to play for Team Canada (skipped by Charley Thomas) as an alternate at the 2006 World Junior Curling Championships. Ng only played in one game at the event, but took home the gold medal along with the rest of the team. The following season, Ng joined the Thomas rink as their second. The team represented Alberta at the 2007 Canadian Junior Curling Championships, losing just one game en route to the championship. Benjamin "Ben" Hebert (born March 16, 1983) is a Canadian curler, a Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympic gold medallist, 2008 World Champion and four time Brier Champion from Chestermere, Alberta. In 2019, Hebert was named the greatest Canadian male lead in history in a TSN poll of broadcasters, reporters and top curlers. Career Hebert, originally from Regina, Saskatchewan, began curling during his school years. In 1998, he lead his high school team to compete in the finals for the city of Regina, ultimately losing to the group from Campbell Collegiate. He played lead for Pat Simmons from 2003 to 2006, where he played in two Briers for Saskatchewan (2005 & 2006). The team finished 6-5 and 5-6 respectively. Marc Kennedy (born February 5, 1982) is a Canadian curler, and Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympic gold medallist from St. Albert, Alberta. John Morris (curler)
John C. Morris (born December 16, 1978; nicknamed "Johnny Mo") is a Canadian curler, and two-time Olympic gold medallist from Canmore, Alberta. Morris played third for the Kevin Martin team until April 24, 2013. Morris, author of the book ''Fit to Curl'', is the son of Maureen and Earle Morris, inventor of the "Stabilizer" curling broom. Morris grew up in Gloucester, Ontario (now part of Ottawa) and at the age of five began curling at the Navy Curling Club. CCA Rankings
The Canadian Team Ranking System (CTRS) is a point system used by Curling Canada to rank men's and women's curling teams across Canada. They are determined through points earned in various curling bonspiels held worldwide throughout the season. CTRS points are the basis of the World Curling Tour's Order of Merit and are also used as criteria in identifying teams that qualify for the Canadian Olympic Curling Trials. Beginning in 2018, the top two CTRS teams that do not otherwise qualify for the Scotties Tournament of Hearts or Tim Hortons Brier will earn the right to compete in a play-in game for a wildcard berth in those tournaments. Blake MacDonald
Blake "Mac" MacDonald (born April 10, 1976) is a Canadians, Canadian curling, curler from St. Albert, Alberta, St. Albert, Alberta. Career For much of his career MacDonald played on Kevin Koe's team. Originally, MacDonald threw last rocks for the team while Koe threw third and Skip (curling), skipped, but in 2009 the two switched throwing order and MacDonald moved to third. MacDonald has been playing with Koe since 2006. Prior to that, he threw fourth rocks for Jamie King (curler), Jamie King. MacDonald has also skipped, and was also a member of the Ken Hunka and Brent MacDonald teams in the past. Early on the Koe rink came up short in major competitions. The Calgary Curling Club is a curling club located in Calgary, Alberta. History The Calgary Curling Club was founded in 1888 and opened its first rink in 1892. Saville Sports Centre
The Saville Community Sports Centre is a sports facility run by the University of Alberta's Faculty of Physical Education and Recreation, where it is located in Edmonton, Alberta. It features a curling rink, tennis courts and a gymnasium. Opened in 2003, the centre currently serves as the national training centre for curling in Canada.
