2011 Dubai Sevens
The 2011 Dubai Sevens was the 11th edition of the tournament and was part of the 2011–12 IRB Sevens World Series. It was held at Dubai, United Arab Emirates, the host stadium was The Sevens stadium. It was the official debut for the United Arab Emirates national team, the first of several national teams to have been created after the disbanding of the tournament's former host union, the Arabian Gulf Rugby Football Union. England defended their title by defeating France 29–12 in the final. Also, it included the first official IRB-sponsored women's sevens event outside of the Rugby World Cup Sevens. Eight national teams competed in the IRB Women's Sevens Challenge Cup — Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, England, South Africa, Spain, and the USA, with the semi-finals and finals played on the main pitch at The Sevens. Andrew Turnbull (rugby Player)
Andrew Turnbull (born 5 April 1982, Edinburgh) is a retired Scottish rugby sevens player. Turnbull was educated at George Watson's College. He represented both Scotland and Great Britain at rugby sevens, including the 2006 Commonwealth Games, and scored more tries for Scotland in sevens than any other player, including 19 in 2005 and 118 tries on the HSBC Sevens World Series alone. Turnbull also played for Watsonians and the Scottish Institute of Sport, and played for Scotland U19, Scotland U21, and the Barbarian F.C. Turnbull was one of the first professional sevens players when Graham Shiel named him in his 2011–12 Scotland 7s squad, and he remained a core player with Scotland 7s under Phil Greening on the 2012–13 circuit. 2010 Dubai Sevens
The Dubai Sevens was played annually as part of the IRB Sevens World Series for international rugby sevens (seven-a-side version of rugby union). The 2010 competition was held on December 3 and December 4 at The Sevens. It was the first of eight events in the 2010–11 IRB Sevens World Series. This was the third edition of the Dubai Sevens to be held at The Sevens. Previous editions were held at the Dubai Exiles Rugby Ground. This was the final tournament for the host Arabian Gulf team. 2012 Dubai Sevens
The 2012 Dubai Sevens was held between 30 November 2012 and 1 December 2012 at The Sevens Stadium in Dubai. It was the 24th edition of the tournament and the second stop of the 2012–13 IRB Sevens World Series. Samoa defeated New Zealand 26–15 in the final to win the title. 2011–12 IRB Sevens World Series
The 2011–12 IRB Sevens World Series, known for sponsorship reasons as the HSBC Sevens World Series, was the 13th annual series of the IRB Sevens World Series tournaments for full national sides run by the International Rugby Board since 1999–2000. Sevens is traditionally played in a two-day tournament format. However, the most famous event, the Hong Kong Sevens, was played over three days, largely because it involves 24 teams instead of the normal 16. In addition, the USA Sevens were a three-day affair this season despite being a standard 16-team event. Itinerary The IRB announced the schedule for the 2011–12 series on 18 August 2011. Rugby World Cup Sevens
Rugby World Cup Sevens (RWCS) is the quadrennial world championship of rugby sevens, a variant of rugby union. Organised by World Rugby, it currently consists of men's and women's tournaments, and is the highest level of competition in the sport outside of the Summer Olympics. The first tournament was held in 1993 in Scotland, and was won by England. The winners of the men's tournament are awarded the Melrose Cup, named after the Scottish town of Melrose where the first rugby sevens game was played.
