2010 Gulf Ice Hockey Championship
The 2010 Gulf Ice Hockey Championship was the first Gulf Ice Hockey Championship. It took place between 25 May and 30 May 2010 in Kuwait City, Kuwait. The United Arab Emirates won the tournament winning all three of their games and finishing first in the standings. Kuwait finished second and Saudi Arabia finished in third place. The 2012 Gulf Ice Hockey Championship was the second Gulf Ice Hockey Championship. It took place between 28 May and 1 June 2012 in Abu Dhabi, the United Arab Emirates. The United Arab Emirates men's national ice hockey team, United Arab Emirates won the tournament after defeating Kuwait men's national ice hockey team, Kuwait in the gold medal game, claiming their second title of the championships. Oman men's national ice hockey team, Oman finished third after defeating Bahrain men's national ice hockey team, Bahrain in the bronze medal game. Gulf Ice Hockey Championship
The Gulf Ice Hockey Championship, also known as the GCC Gulf Ice Hockey Championships, is an international ice hockey competition involving countries from the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) region. The inaugural tournament took place on May 25 to May 30 in Kuwait City, Kuwait, and was organized by the Kuwait Ice Hockey Association. The UAE national ice hockey team ( ar, منتخب الإمارات العربية المتحدة لهوكي الجليد) is the national men's ice hockey team of the United Arab Emirates. It is operated under the UAE Ice Sports Federation and a member of the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF). As of 26 May 2019, the UAE is currently ranked 48th in the IIHF World Ranking and competes in Division III Group A tournament of the World Championships. The Kuwait national ice hockey team ( ar, منتخب الكويت لهوكي الجليد) is the national men's ice hockey team of Kuwait. The team is controlled by the Kuwait Ice Hockey Association and a member of the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) since 8 May 2009. As of 28 May 2023, Kuwait is currently ranked 50th in the IIHF World Ranking. The Saudi Arabia national ice hockey team ( ar, منتخب المملكة العربية السعودية لهوكي الجليد) is the national men's ice hockey team of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Saudi Arabia is not a member of the IIHF and therefore not eligible to enter any IIHF World Championship events. History The Saudi Arabian Nationals first played ice hockey in the early 1990s. Ice hockey was played in Riyadh at the Fal Shopping Centre Ice Rink, a rink 1/3 the size of a standard North American-sized ice rink. In 1994, five Saudis were part of a team consisting of mostly ex-pats from Canada and Finland. This particular team was the winner of the Canuck Cup held in Dubai. The Omani national ice hockey team ( ar, منتخب عمان لهوكي الجليد), nicknamed '' The Khanjars'' ( ar, الخنجر ''Al-Khanajar''), is the national ice hockey team of Oman. They are controlled by the Oman Ice Sports Committee and has been an associate member of the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF). Oman is currently not ranked in the IIHF World Ranking and have not entered in any World Championship tournaments or at any Olympic Games, but have played in the Challenge Cup of Asia, a regional tournament for lower-tier hockey nations in Asia. International Ice Hockey Federation
The International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF; french: Fédération internationale de hockey sur glace; german: Internationale Eishockey-Föderation) is a worldwide governing body for ice hockey. It is based in Zurich, Switzerland, and has 83 member countries. The IIHF maintains the IIHF World Ranking based on international ice hockey tournaments. Rules of play for IIHF events differ from hockey in North America and the rules of the National Hockey League (NHL). Decisions of the IIHF can be appealed through the Court of Arbitration for Sport in Lausanne, Switzerland. The IIHF maintains its own hall of fame for international ice hockey.
