2010 FIBA World Championship
The 2010 FIBA World Championship was the 16th FIBA World Championship, the international basketball world championship contested by the men's national teams. The tournament ran from 28 August to 12 September 2010. It was co-organised by the International Basketball Federation (FIBA), Turkish Basketball Federation and the 2010 Organising Committee. It was considered as prestigious a competition as the Olympic Basketball Tournament. The tournament was hosted by Turkey. For the third time (after the 1986 and 2006 tournaments), the World Championship had 24 competing nations. As a result, the group stage games were played in four cities, and the knockout round was hosted by Istanbul. The United States won the tournament for their fourth time after going undefeated in the Opening Round and beating host Turkey in the final. Turkey Men's National Basketball Team
The Turkey men's national basketball team ( tr, Türkiye Millî Basketbol Takımı) represents Turkey in international basketball tournaments. They are governed by the Turkish Basketball Federation. Their nickname is the ''12 Dev Adam'', meaning 12 Giant Men. Turkey has competed at every major international basketball tournament. Their greatest achievements are winning two silver medals on home soil at the EuroBasket (2001), and FIBA World Cup (2010) respectively. Turkey has also won two gold (1987, 2013), one silver (1971), and three bronze (1967, 1983, 2009) medals at the Mediterranean Games. They also won the gold medal at the 1981 Balkan Championship. Abdullah Gül
Abdullah Gül (; ; born 29 October 1950) is a Turkish politician who served as the 11th President of Turkey, in office from 2007 to 2014. He previously served for four months as Prime Minister from 2002 to 2003, and concurrently served as both Deputy Prime Minister and as Foreign Minister between 2003 and 2007. 2010 United States Men's FIBA World Championship Team
The United States men's national basketball team won the gold medal at the 2010 FIBA World Championship. The team was an entirely rebuilt squad without a single member from its 2008 Olympic gold-medal team. The 2010 team relied heavily on a small lineup to win its first World Championship since 1994.
