2010 Boston Pizza Cup
The 2010 Boston Pizza Cup was held February 3–7 at the Olds Sportsplex in Olds, Alberta. The winner, team Kevin Koe, represented Alberta at the 2010 Tim Hortons Brier in Halifax, Nova Scotia. Team Koe would eventually go on to win the Brier and capture the 2010 Capital One World Men's Curling Championship. Although his team would have been entered automatically as the defending provincial champion, Kevin Martin did not compete because his team had won the 2009 Canadian Olympic Curling Trials and qualified for the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver which started shortly after the Boston Pizza Cup. As a result, 2009 runner-up Randy Ferbey was entered as the defending champion. Olds ( ) is a town in central Alberta, Canada within Mountain View County and the Calgary–Edmonton Corridor. It is approximately south of Red Deer and north of Calgary. Sexsmith is a town in northern Alberta, it is on Highway 2, north of Grande Prairie. Sexsmith is located in the Peace River Country region of Alberta, one of the most fertile growing areas in the province. Kurt Balderston
Kurt Balderston (born c. 1963) is a Canadian curler from Sexsmith, Alberta. Career Balderston is a former Canadian Mixed champion, having won the 1992 Canadian Mixed Curling Championship. Since then he has played in four national mixed championships, in 1998, 2001, 2012 and 2013. He finished as the runner-up in 2012 and in sixth place in 2013, when Cheryl Bernard replaced his regular third Desirée Owen. Balderston won a sixth provincial mixed title in 2018 and will represent Alberta at the 2019 Canadian Mixed Curling Championship. Balderston has also competed in the Alberta curling provincials multiple times. His best finishes were as the runner-up in 1991, 1992, 2002, and 2004. Matthew "Matt" Ng (born January 4, 1986 in Calgary, Calgary, Alberta) is a Canadians, Canadian Curling, curler from Calgary, Alberta. He currently plays Lead (curling), lead on Team Charley Thomas. Career Youth Ng was a member of Team Alberta at the 2003 Canada Winter Games, where he won a bronze medal. Ng, who was a member of the J. D. Lind junior rink, was invited to play for Team Canada (skipped by Charley Thomas) as an alternate at the 2006 World Junior Curling Championships. The Red Deer Curling Club is a curling club in Red Deer, Alberta. The club was founded ca. 1900s. The club has been operating out of its current location, the Pidherney Curling Centre (formerly the Red Deer Curling Centre) since 1953. Plans are underway to move to a larger, 12-sheet building. Rob Armitage (curler)
Robert Benjamin Armitage ( Herlein; September 27, 1957 – November 28, 2022) was a Canadian curler. Early life Armitage was born in 1957, the son of Magdalena (Maggie) and Aloysius (Lloyd) Herlein. The family lived in Red Deer, Alberta when his father was killed in a car accident in 1961, and the family temporarily moved to Fusilier, Saskatchewan before moving back to Red Deer a few months later. His mother re-married in 1965 to her new husband Glen Armitage. His mother was killed at a train crossing in 1969, and Glen adopted Rob and his siblings in 1970, which resulted in Rob's surname changing to Armitage. Glen remarried later that year. Armitage played many sports in his youth, including badminton, Canadian football, rugby, broomball, slow pitch baseball, and fastball in addition to curling.
