The 2009–10 TFF 1. Lig (referred to as the Bank Asya 1. Lig for sponsorship reasons) is the 47th season of the second-level football league of Turkey since its establishment in 1963–64. Teams 2008–09 TFF 1. Lig champions Manisaspor, runners-up Diyarbakırspor and play-off winners Kasımpaşa were promoted to the 2009–10 Süper Lig. They were replaced by Konyaspor, Kocaelispor and Hacettepe, who ended the 2008–09 season in the bottom three places of the standings. Sakaryaspor, Güngören Belediyespor and Malatyaspor were relegated to the Second League after finishing in the last three spots of the 2008–09 First League season standings. Bank Asya was a former Turkish participation bank that operated between 1996 and 2016. It was established on October 24, 1996, with its head office in Istanbul, as the sixth private finance house of Turkey and an Islamic participation bank. Bank Asya opened its first branch in Altunizade, Istanbul on 24 October 1996. Mersin İdman Yurdu was a Turkish sports club from Mersin, Turkey in the eastern Mediterranean Region. The 2008–09 Süper Lig (also known as ''Turkcell Super League'' due to sponsoring reasons) was the fifty-first season since its establishment. It began on 22 August 2008 and ended on 31 May 2009. Galatasaray were the defending champions. Beşiktaş clinched the championship after winning at Denizlispor on the last matchday. The latter barely avoided relegation after finishing in a three-way tie on points with Gençlerbirliği and Konyaspor. Head-to-head comparison between those three teams eventually resulted in the demotion of Konyaspor, who joined Kocaelispor and Hacettepe on their way to the second-level First League. The season commenced on 7 August 2009 with İstanbul Büyükşehir Belediyespor (football team), Istanbul B.B. hosting defending champions Beşiktaş J.K., Beşiktaş at Atatürk Olympic Stadium.
