The 2009 World Indoor Bowls Championships was held at Potters Leisure Resort, Hopton on Sea, Great Yarmouth, England, from 05-26 January 2009. The event was sponsored by Potters Holidays. Great Yarmouth
Great Yarmouth (), often called Yarmouth, is a seaside town and unparished area in, and the main administrative centre of, the Borough of Great Yarmouth in Norfolk, England; it straddles the River Yare and is located east of Norwich. A population of 38,693 in the 2011 Census made it Norfolk's third most populous. Its fishing industry, mainly for herring, shrank after the mid-20th century and has all but ended. Ceri Ann Davies (born 15 December 1978), married name Ceri Ann Glen is an international lawn bowls player. Bowls career She made her debut for Wales aged just eleven. After competing for Wales since the age of eleven, she moved to Australia where she was courted by their Talent Identification Programme. After switching allegiance to Australia she won a silver medal in the triples at the 2006 Commonwealth Games in Melbourne. In 2008, she won the Women's singles and Mixed pairs during the 2008 World Indoor Bowls Championship and one year later she retained the Mixed pairs title at the 2009 World Indoor Bowls Championship with David Gourlay. John Price (bowls)
John Haydn Price is a former Welsh international lawn and indoor bowler and current bowls commentator. Bowls career Early life Brought into the game by his grandparents at the age of 10, and as a schoolboy, he initially played only during the summer holidays, winning a couple of open tournaments in partnership with his father Harry. He started to take bowls seriously after earning his first Wales cap in 1979. Price is one of the founder members of both the Professional Bowls Association and also the World Bowls Tour, and is a timeless ace on the portable rink, . World Indoor Championships Price is a four times World indoor champion, winning the singles in 1990. Price also made the 2005 final fifteen years after his first singles title was achieved, where he lost to Paul Foster in the final. Les Gillett (bowls)
Leslie John Gillett (born 17 November 1970) is an English international indoor and lawn bowls player. He is nicknamed Razor. Bowls career Indoor career Gillett won the 2001 World Indoor Bowls Championship pairs title in Great Yarmouth with bowls partner Mark McMahon. Sixteen years later he won his second title when he won the Open pairs with Jason Greenslade at the 2017 World Indoor Bowls Championship in Great Yarmouth. At the 2022 World Indoor Bowls Championship, Gillett (as the sixth seed) finally won the Open singles title after defeating five-time champion Paul Foster in a tie-break set in the final. Gillett won the first set by virtue of overtaking Foster's lead during the final ends. Foster comfortably won the second set before Gillett won the tie break. Other major wins include the 1997 International Open and 2002 Welsh Open. He now represents the Leicester indoor club. Paul James Foster (born 13 March 1973) is a multiple world bowls champion who lives in Troon, Scotland. He plays at Troon Portland (Outdoor) & Ambassador Prestwick (Indoor) bowling clubs. Bowling career Indoor career Foster is the second most prolific winner of the World Indoor Championship singles title, behind six-times winner, pairs partner and close friend Alex Marshall. He has five wins from seven final appearances (in 1998, 2001, 2005, 2011 and 2017), with his two defeats coming in the 2013 final to Stewart Anderson and in the 2022 final to Les Gillett. In addition, Foster has won another eight world indoor titles, bringing his career record to 13. Andrew Edward Thomson Order of the British Empire, MBE is a former international lawn and indoor bowler. Known as Andy Thomson he was born in Fife, Scotland, on 26 November 1955, and represented Scotland before deciding to represent England. Bowls career Thomson won the Buckhaven Club Championship at the age of 16 and one year later was the Fife under-30 champion. In 1978 he won the Scottish junior indoor title. After moving to Kent he claimed the List of Bowls England champions, 1981 EBA national singles. He represented England at the 1986 Commonwealth Games, England in the singles, at the 1986 Commonwealth Games in Edinburgh, Scotland. Jeremy Norman Henry (born 3 April 1974) is a former Irish and current Australian lawn and indoor bowler born in Northern Ireland. Bowls career Outdoor Bowls Henry has achieved major success in the sport winning two gold medals in the World Outdoor Bowls Championship and three Commonwealth Games medals. In 1996 he won the gold in the pairs with Sammy Allen at the 1996 World Outdoor Bowls Championship in Adelaide, Australia.
