2009 Winmau World Masters
The 2009 Winmau World Masters was the fourth major tournament on the BDO/ WDF calendar for 2009. It took place from September 4–6 in the Bridlington Spa Royal Hall. It was shown on the BBC. The men's final was won by Martin Adams, who beat Robbie Green by 7 sets to 6. The women's final was won by Linda Ithurralde, who beat Trina Gulliver by 4 legs to 3. The Spa, Bridlington
Bridlington Spa is a dance hall, theatre and conference centre in Bridlington, East Riding of Yorkshire, England. Refurbished between 2006 and 2008 and further updated with a new branding in 2016, the venue boasts a large Art Deco ball room, Edwardian theatre, art gallery and a selection of other meeting and event spaces; all featuring outstanding views over Bridlington's South Bay. The original Spa on the site was built in 1896; which consisted of a theatre and seaside pavilion. A fire in 1906 saw the theatre destroyed and a replacement opera house was built in 1907 and still forms part of the building today. The local authority took control of the buildings in 1914, acquired it in 1919 and rebuilt all but the theatre in 1926. A further fire destroyed these later buildings in 1932 and work started almost immediately to construct their replacements. Darryl Fitton
Darryl Fitton (born 5 May 1962) is an English professional darts player. He is nicknamed The Dazzler and comes to the stage dancing to the Madness song "One Step Beyond" wearing sunglasses; one of the most popular walk-ons with the audience. Before embarking on a career in darts, Fitton worked as an undertaker. Darts career Fitton's first TV appearance was against Peter Manley in the 1997 PDC World Matchplay. However, he lost 8-6, and has not made another PDC appearance since. Fitton debuted in the BDO World Championship in 2003 as a qualifier, but lost 1-3 to fellow qualifier John Burton in the first round. In 2004, he returned to Lakeside, again hitting a 180 score with his very first turn. He reached the quarter-finals before being beaten by Andy Fordham, who went on to win the title. Gary Robson (darts Player)
Gary "Big Robbo" Robson (born 19 June 1967) is an English professional darts player who plays in World Darts Federation events. Robson now resides in the small rural village of Rothbury, Northumberland. Career Robson qualified twice for the World Championships, but was beaten in the first round on each occasion. He made it for a third time in 2004, but found himself 2–0 down in sets against Steve Coote. However, Robson recovered and took the match to a sudden death deciding leg, which he won. Bobby George commented that "you won't see browner darts in this tournament than that match". Robson had another excellent performance in losing to 'Silverback' Tony O'Shea in the second round. Dave Prins
David Michael Prins (born 16 November 1968) is an English professional darts player. Career Prins reached the last 16 of the 2009 Winmau World Masters, where he lost to Tony O'Shea in three straight sets. Prins qualified for his first BDO World Darts Championship in 2010. He was the seventh seed, but lost in the first round to eventual semi-finalist Martin Phillips. He won the 2010 Isle of Man Open, beating Joey ten Berge. He also qualified for the 2011 BDO World Darts Championship as the number 16 seed, but lost 1–3 to John Walton. Lisa Ashton
Lisa Ashton (born 27 August 1970) is an English professional darts player who currently plays in World Darts Federation (WDF) and Professional Darts Corporation (PDC) events. She is a four-time BDO World Darts Women's Champion and has won over 100 titles in women's darts. In 2020, she became the first woman to win a PDC Tour Card at the PDC Q-School. Career Ashton reached the quarter-finals of the 2007 Women's World Masters, beating 1996 finalist Heike Jenkins (Ernst) in the last 16 before losing to Rilana Erades. Karin Krappen
Karin Krappen (born 10 December 1973) is a former Dutch darts player. She is a former winner of the Women's World Darts Trophy and the Women's World Masters. She was nicknamed Dolphin. Career Krappen made her World Championship debut in 2003, losing in the quarter finals to Francis Hoenselaar. She went one step further in 2004, beating Anne Kirk in the quarter finals but lost in the semis to Trina Gulliver. Dee Bateman is an English professional darts player. Bateman made her World Championship debut in 2008, losing in the quarter-finals to eventual champion Anastasia Dobromyslova. Francis Hoenselaar
Francisca ("Francis") Hoenselaar (born 15 January 1965 in Rotterdam, South Holland) is a retired Dutch professional darts player from the Netherlands. She was nicknamed ''The Dutch Crown''. A leading player in the women's game, Hoenselaar was the 2009 British Darts Organisation Women's World Darts Champion, having defeated Trina Gulliver in the final. Prior to this, she had been runner-up no fewer than five times - each time losing to Gulliver. Achievements A Netherlands native, Hoenselaar has won the Dutch title fifteen times. Tricia Wright (born 1 September 1958 in Epping) is a female former professional English darts player from Mitcham in Surrey. Her nickname is The Wright Stuff. Career Wright competed in the first PDC Women's World Championship final in 2010, losing 6-5 to Stacy Bromberg despite having four darts to win it. Julie Robin Gore (born 5 August 1958) is a former Welsh professional female darts player. Career Gore made her World Championship in 2008, losing in the quarter finals to Trina Gulliver. Irina Armstrong
Irina Armstrong (russian: Ирина Армстронг) née Loginova (born 6 December 1970) is a Russian-born German female professional darts player who currently plays in the World Darts Federation (WDF) events. Her biggest achievement to date was advanced to semi-finals in the 2011 BDO World Darts Championship. She is a gold medalist in pairs competitions during the WDF World Cup and WDF Europe Cup. Career Armstrong started out playing ten-pin bowling until she was pregnant and decided to pick up darts. From then, she has quickly risen to be one of the top women players in the world. Joey Ten Berge
Joey ten Berge (born 18 October 1985) is a Dutch former darts player. Career BDO Ten Berge won the 2001 WDF Europe Youth Cup beating Sweden's Markus Korhonen in the final. Six years later, he captured his first professional title by capturing the 2007 Austrian Open, defeating Hungary's Nándor Bezzeg in the final.
