2009 Asia-Pacific Rally Championship Season
The 2009 Asia-Pacific Rally Championship season was an international rally championship sanctioned by the FIA. Australian Subaru driver Cody Crocker won his fourth successive title, the first driver to do so. Crocker's co-driver, Ben Atkinson likewise wrapped up the co-drivers title. Crocker scored 94 out of a possible 96 points to complete dominate the season. The Pacific Cup, decided over the first three rallies in the season was won by New Zealand pairing, Hayden Paddon and John Kennard. Crocker won the Asia Cup, held over the later four rallies of the season. Crocker's team mate, New Zealand driver Emma Gilmour finished second in the championship, moving past former champion Katsuhiko Taguchi at the final round to become the first woman to finish in the series top three positions. Asia-Pacific Rally Championship
The Asia-Pacific Rally Championship (APRC) is an international rally championship organized by the FIA encompassing rounds in Asia and Oceania. Group N cars dominated the championship for many years but in recent years cars built to R5 and S2000 regulations have tended to be the frontrunners. The championship was first held in 1988, created out of the successful expansion of the World Rally Championship into Asia and linking with the debut of Rally Australia and won by Japan's Kenjiro Shinozuka in a Mitsubishi Galant VR-4. Initially the championship had strong support from World Rally Championship teams, aided by more than half the calendar being WRC rallies and by Japanese manufacturers backing half of the front runners with Mazda, Toyota, Mitsubishi and Subaru all running front running teams. The Kshatrapa, Andhra and Gupta started curving the bottom vertical line coming up with a -look-alike. Gaurav Gill is a professional rally driver and an Indian motorsports athlete who competes in the Asia-Pacific Rally Championship. In 2013, Gaurav Gill became the first Indian driver to win the FIA Asia-Pacific Rally Championship and went on to win two more APRC titles in 2016 and 2018. Gill became the first sportsperson from Motorsports to win the coveted Arjuna Award from the President of India in 2019. Gaurav Gill also holds the record for the highest number of the Indian National Rally Championship title for four-wheelers along with Naren Kumar. Rally Indonesia
Rally of Indonesia (also known as the Indonesia Rally) is the largest rallying event held in Indonesia. Currently part of the Asia Pacific Rally Championship (APRC), it has twice been incorporated into the World Rally Championship (WRC) calendar, in 1996 and 1997; a planned running in 1998 was cancelled due to political crisis that year. This rally is mostly held in North Sumatra, although it was also held several times in South Sumatra and South Sulawesi. The APRC event on 25–26 September 2010 was to be observed by the FIA as a candidate event for an inclusion to the WRC 2012 calendar, although ultimately neither event were held; the rally returned as a national event in 2013.
