The 2008 Dwars door Vlaanderen was the 63rd edition of the Dwars door Vlaanderen cycle race and was held on 26 March 2008. The race started in Roeselare and finished in Waregem. The race was won by Sylvain Chavanel. Sylvain Chavanel''Procycling'', UK, November 2008 (born 30 June 1979) is a French former professional road bicycle racer, who rode professionally between 2000 and 2018 for the , , and two spells with the / team. His brother Sébastien Chavanel also rode as a professional cyclist. Sylvain Chavanel was noted as a strong all-rounder who won both sprints and time-trials, and was a good northern classics rider, taking 45 wins during his professional career. Background Chavanel was born in Châtellerault, France, although his family roots are in Spain. His great-grandparents were from Huesca, in the Aragon region. His grandfather was born in Barcelona and moved to Châtellerault during the Spanish Civil War. Other members of the family still live in Aragon. Allan Johansen (born 14 July 1971) is a Danish former professional road bicycle racer. Career He became professional in 1998 for Team Chicky World, before moving to (later known as Team CSC) in 2000. Johansen continued at Team Fakta from 2001 to 2003 then to in 2004, before returning to Team CSC in 2005, where remained until the end of 2007. In 2008 he joined . Johansen retired in 2009 ending his career with the 2009 Danmark Rundt when he was awarded the fighters award for the race. He rode in the 2000 Tour de France, and finished 119th overall. In 2008, for the first time in ten years, two Grand Tours were won by one rider, the Spaniard Alberto Contador. Alessandro Ballan succeeded fellow Italian Paolo Bettini as World Champion, winning the road race in his home country, where Varese hosted the World Championships for the second time in history. Bettini and German sprinter Erik Zabel were among the most prominent riders to quit after this season, while Mario Cipollini made a brief comeback in the early months of the year. Despite even tighter controls and warnings concerning doping, and the introduction of the blood passport by the UCI, several major races, including the Giro and Tour were faced with positive tests. Nick Nuyens
Nick Nuyens (born 5 May 1980) is a Belgian former professional road racing cyclist who last rode for in the UCI World Tour. His biggest wins included the semi-classics Kuurne–Brussels–Kuurne, Omloop Het Volk, Paris–Brussels and the classic Tour of Flanders. He was a classics rider. His first wife was the Belgian multiple national champion, Evy Van Damme, with whom he had three children. In 2015 he married Lynn Peeters. He retired in 2015 after failing to secure a new contract. Career The year 2011 was a good one for him, since he took the victory on two classics in Flanders. At the end of March, he prevailed in a sprint at the Dwars door Vlaanderen, after desperately trying to steer clear of the group in the last of the race. Joost Posthuma (born 8 March 1981) is a Dutch retired professional road bicycle racer, who competed as a professional between 2004 and 2012. Born in Hengelo, Posthuma was known for his time-trialling and he wore the white jersey for the best young rider at the 2006 Tour de France. Posthuma set the best time for riders eligible for the young rider classification in the prologue, but lost it after the 1st road stage, after a rival got in a breakaway and got bonus seconds on the road. Andreas Klier (born 15 January 1976) is a retired German professional road racing cyclist. He competed professionally between 1996 and 2013. Klier moved into a managerial role with his final professional team, , after announcing his retirement as a rider on 13 May 2013. On 15 August 2013, Klier admitted he used performance-enhancing drugs between 1999 and 2006. Born in Munich, Bavaria, Germany, Klier currently resides in the Balearic Island of Majorca. Steven de Jongh (born 25 November 1973 in Alkmaar) is a Dutch former road bicycle racer. Biography De Jongh made his professional debut in 1995 at TVM team where he stayed until 1999. From 2000 to 2005 he was part of , while he made the move to in 2006. De Jongh retired as a rider after the 2009 season. Waregem (; vls, Woaregem), sometimes known as Waereghem, is a municipality and city located in the Belgian province of West Flanders. The municipality lies in the valley of the river Leie, between Kortrijk and Ghent. Roeselare (; french: Roulers, ; West Flemish: ''Roeseloare'') is a Belgian city and municipality in the Flemish province of West Flanders. The municipality comprises the city of Roeselare proper and the towns of Beveren, Oekene and Rumbeke.
