2008 Asia-Pacific Rally Championship Season
The 2008 Asia-Pacific Rally Championship season (APRC) was an international rally championship organized by the FIA. The champion was Australian driver Cody Crocker. In winning the 2008 Malaysian Rally, Crocker successfully defended his title from the previous two years, to equal the record of three APRC titles set by Possum Bourne, Kenneth Eriksson and Karamjit Singh. Asia-Pacific Rally Championship
The Asia-Pacific Rally Championship (APRC) is an international rally championship organized by the FIA encompassing rounds in Asia and Oceania. Group N cars dominated the championship for many years but in recent years cars built to R5 and S2000 regulations have tended to be the frontrunners. The championship was first held in 1988, created out of the successful expansion of the World Rally Championship into Asia and linking with the debut of Rally Australia and won by Japan's Kenjiro Shinozuka in a Mitsubishi Galant VR-4. Initially the championship had strong support from World Rally Championship teams, aided by more than half the calendar being WRC rallies and by Japanese manufacturers backing half of the front runners with Mazda, Toyota, Mitsubishi and Subaru all running front running teams. Dean Herridge (born 23 August 1976) is an Australian rally driver. He finished eighth on the 2006 Rally Australia, scoring one World Rally Championship point. Career Herridge began rallying in 1994. He contested his first World Rally Championship event the following year on Rally Australia in a Hyundai Lantra, retiring from the rally. Malaysian Rally
The Malaysian Rally, known previously as Rally Malaysia and Rally of Malaysia, is a rally racing event held in the state of Johor, at the southern tip of Peninsular Malaysia. The rally is based out of the state capital Johor Bahru. An earlier version of the Malaysian Rally was called "The South Malaysia Rally". organized by the Singapore Motor Club, the first event was held in 1964. Records on hand do not include the inaugural event but the South Malaysian Rally was held at least through 1969. Gaurav Gill is a professional rally driver and an Indian motorsports athlete who competes in the Asia-Pacific Rally Championship. In 2013, Gaurav Gill became the first Indian driver to win the FIA Asia-Pacific Rally Championship and went on to win two more APRC titles in 2016 and 2018. Gill became the first sportsperson from Motorsports to win the coveted Arjuna Award from the President of India in 2019. Gaurav Gill also holds the record for the highest number of the Indian National Rally Championship title for four-wheelers along with Naren Kumar.
