2006–07 Luxembourg National Division
The 2006–07 Luxembourg National Division was the 93rd season of top level association football in Luxembourg. The competition ran from 5 August 2006 to 30 May 2007. F91 Dudelange continued their domination of the National Division by winning their third league title in a row; Dudelange also won the Luxembourg Cup to complete the Double. Teams The National Division was expanded from the 2005–06 season's complement of twelve teams to fourteen. Those fourteen clubs were: Format Unlike in previous seasons, when a more complicated system was used, the 2006–07 season involved only a round-robin among the fourteen teams. The National Division ( lb, Nationaldivisioun, french: Division Nationale, german: Nationaldivision) is the highest football league in Luxembourg. Until 2011, it was known as the BGL Ligue, after the Luxembourg Football Federation managed to seal a sponsorship deal with Fortis. Before 2006, it contained twelve teams, but it expanded to fourteen for the 2006–07 season. Following the abandonment of the previous season, the 2020–21 season saw the further expansion of the league to 16 teams. Jeunesse Esch
Jeunesse Esch (full name ''Association Sportive la Jeunesse d'Esch/Alzette'') is a football club, based in Esch-sur-Alzette, in south-western Luxembourg. The side play in the National Division, the highest league in the country, and have won the league title on 28 occasions between 1921 and 2010, the most of any team in Luxembourg. History The club was founded in 1907 as Jeunesse la Frontière d'Esch in reference to the proximity of their stadium to the border with France. "La frontière" was dropped to give the club its current name in 1918, which it retained until World War II, where the Nazi regime implemented the German name SV Schwarz-Weiß 07 Esch and the club had to play in the ''Gauliga Moselland'', finishing runners-up in the 1943–44 season. Niederkorn () is a town in the commune of Differdange, in south-western Luxembourg, on the Chiers river (), from which it takes its name. As of March 31, 2020, the town has a population of 7,272. Club Sportif Pétange is a former football club, based in Pétange, in south-western Luxembourg. In 2015 it folded and merged with FC Titus Lamadelaine to form Union Titus Pétange. In the 2007–08 season, Pétange finished fourteenth and last in the National Division and were relegated to the Division of Honour. Mamer () is a commune and town (strictly classified as a village) in south-western Luxembourg. It is located west of Luxembourg City. FC Mamer 32 is a football club based in Mamer, Luxembourg. History FC Mamer was founded in 1932. The club plied its trade in the lower leagues of Luxembourgish football for most of its first sixty years, and only reached the third tier (the 'First Division') briefly in the 1970s, before relegation again. In 1992, Mamer gained promotion to the First Division again, and solidified its position there.
