2006 European Seniors Tour
The 2006 European Seniors Tour was the 15th season of the European Seniors Tour, the professional golf tour for men aged fifty and above operated by the PGA European Tour. Scotland's Sam Torrance retained his Order of Merit title, despite a late charge by the 2003 and 2004 Order of Merit winner Carl Mason. Sam Torrance
Samuel Robert Torrance (born 24 August 1953) is a Scottish professional golfer and sports commentator. He was one of the leading players on the European Tour from the mid-1970s to the late 1990s, with 21 Tour wins. Torrance was a member of European Ryder Cup teams on eight occasions consecutively; on Cup-winning teams four times. He was also part of the winning Scotland team at the 1995 Dunhill Cup. He was the winning non-playing captain of the European Ryder Cup team in 2002. Torrance was honoured with the MBE (1996) and OBE (2003), for his outstanding contributions to golf. AIB Irish Seniors Open
The Irish Senior Open is the Irish stop on men's golf's European Senior Tour. It was played from 1997 to 2010 and was contested at several different courses around Ireland. From 1997 to 2007 it was sponsored by Allied Irish Banks. In 2021, the tournament was revived as the Irish Legends and was presented by Paul McGinley's foundation. Senior Major Golf Championships
Men's professional senior golf is for players aged 50 and above. Golf differs from all other sports in having lucrative competitions for this age group. The leading senior tour is the U.S.-based PGA Tour Champions, which was established in 1980 (as the Senior PGA Tour). It has established a roster of five major championships. These events are all played over four rounds, whereas other senior tournaments are generally played over three rounds—only one other current Champions Tour event, the limited-field and season-ending Charles Schwab Cup Championship, is played over four rounds. A golfer's performances can be quite variable from one round to the next, so playing an extra round increases the likelihood that the senior majors will be won by leading players. Loren Roberts
Loren Lloyd Roberts (born June 24, 1955) is an American professional golfer, who has played on the PGA Tour and the PGA Tour Champions. Early life Roberts was born in San Luis Obispo, California. He competed for San Luis Obispo Senior High School and California Polytechnic State University. In 1975, he turned professional after his sophomore season due to the university's dropping its NCAA Division II golf team. Professional career In the late 1970s, Roberts worked for Dennis Pogue as an assistant pro at San Luis Obispo Golf and Country Club as well as Morro Bay Golf Course. He won the Foot-Joy PGA Assistant Professional Championship of 1979 and was second in 1980. Senior British Open Championship
The Senior Open Championship, or simply The Senior Open (and originally known as the Senior British Open) is a professional golf tournament for players aged 50 and over. It is run by The R&A, the same body that organises The Open Championship. Prize money won in the event is official money on both PGA Tour Champions (formerly the Senior PGA Tour and Champions Tour) and the European Senior Tour. Allen Doyle
Allen Michael Doyle (born July 26, 1948) is an American professional golfer who played on the Nike Tour, PGA Tour, and Champions Tour. Life and career Doyle was born in Woonsocket, Rhode Island and raised in the Boston suburb of Norwood, Massachusetts. He attended Catholic Memorial High School in West Roxbury, Massachusetts, and Norwich University in Vermont where he hosts an annual golf tournament to benefit the Norwich Hockey Team. Despite winning numerous amateur titles, he did not turn professional until he was 46. In 1995, his first full professional season, he won three times on the Nike Tour. From 1996 to 1998 Doyle competed in 58 PGA Tour events, making the cut in 31, including two top-10 finishes. Giuseppe Calì (golfer)
Giuseppe Calì (born 28 September 1952) is an Italian professional golfer. Calì was born in Mirano. He turned professional in 1971 and has won twelve professional tournaments in his home country, including five in 1988. Calì played on the European circuit from the mid-1980s to the late 1990s - sometimes on the European Tour itself and sometimes on the second tier Challenge Tour. His best results on the European Tour were sixth places at the 1990 Italian Open and the 1991 Mediterranean Open. In 1990 he won both the Cerruti Open and the Memorial Olivier Barras on the Challenge Tour and topped the Challenge Tour money rankings. The Bendinat London Seniors Masters was a men's professional golf tournament for players aged 50 and above as part of the European Seniors Tour. It was played in 1995 and then from 2005 to 2007. The event was played at the London Golf Club, Ash, Sevenoaks, Kent. It was played over the Heritage Course, which was designed by Jack Nicklaus. Guillermo Encina
Guillermo Encina (born 7 November 1951) is a Chilean professional golfer. Encina was born in Santiago, Chile. He was taught the game by his father, the head greenskeeper at the Papudo Club in Chile, and turned professional in 1975. He won several tournaments in his home country, including the Chile Open five times, and spent time on the South African and Canadian tours and the pre-Asian Tour Asian circuit. He represented Chile at the World Cup four times. After turning 50, Encina joined the European Seniors Tour.
