2005 WPA World Nine-ball Championship
The 2005 WPA World Nine-ball Championship was the 16th edition of the WPA World Nine-ball Championship, WPA World Championship for 9-Ball Pool. It took place from July 2 to 10, 2005 in the Taiwanese city, Kaohsiung. Taiwanese Wu Jiaqing, Wu Chia-ching won the championship with a 17–16 victory in the final against compatriot Kuo Po-Cheng. Defending champion Alex Pagulayan was eliminated by Vilmos Földes in the round of 32. Format The 128 participating players were divided into 16 groups, in which they competed in Round-robin tournament, round robin mode against each other. The top four players in each group qualified for the final round played in the knockout system, featuring the remaining 64 players. Imran Majid (Urdu: امران مجید) (born 4 October 1972 in London) is an English professional pool player. Early life and career Majid was born in London to parents who emigrated from Lahore, Punjab. Antonio Lining (born May 9, 1963, in Mindoro, Philippines) is a Filipino people, Filipino Pocket billiards, pool player, nicknamed "Nikoy". He is one of the few left-handed Asian players. Lining's most notable appearance was in the Motolite International Nine-ball Tournament in 2000, where he finished second to Francisco Bustamante, having beaten Efren Reyes in the quarter-finals. At the 2002 Busan Asian Games, Lining and Bustamante won the gold medal at the nine-ball doubles event. Naoyuki Ōi
is a Japanese pool player. Ōi is best known for reaching the semi-final of the 2012 WPA World Nine-ball Championship, and represented Japan at the World Cup of Pool on six occasions. Career In July 2005, Ōi competed in the 2005 WPA World Nine-ball Championship, but lost in the preliminary round. In February 2007, he finished fifth at the Korea Pro Pool Tour, and ninth at the Predator International Championship. Ismael Páez (born September 19, 1950) is a Mexican professional pool and card player, best known for being the runner-up at the 2000 WPA World Nine-ball Championship. Career In September 1998, Ismael Páez defeated German the Spanish 9-ball Open becoming the second non-European player after Francisco Bustamante to win a Euro Tour tournament. A month later, Páez finished 17th at the 1998 9-Ball World Championship. Radosław Babica
Radosław Babica (Born 18 July 1979) is Polish professional pool player from Kielce, who reached number 12 in the World Pool-Billiard Association world rankings in 2009. Career Babica final reached the European Pool Championships final of the 9-Ball event in 2007. He later also reached the final in the 10-Ball event and three more semi-final appearances at European Championships (one each in the 8-Ball, 9-ball and 14/1 endless). Efren Manalang Reyes (born August 26, 1954), popularly known by the nickname "Bata" (English: "Kid"), is a Filipino professional pool player.
