The 2005 Internazionali Femminili di Palermo was a professional women's tennis tournament played on outdoor clay courts. It was the 18th edition of the tournament which was part of the WTA Tier IV category of the 2005 WTA Tour. It took place in Palermo, Italy between 18 and 24 July 2005. Third-seeded Anabel Medina Garrigues won her second consecutive singles title at the event, and third in total, and earned $22,000 first-prize money. The WTA Tier IV tournaments were Women's Tennis Association fourth-level tournaments held from 1990 until the end of the 2008 season. Ana Isabel Medina Garrigues (, ; born 31 July 1982) is a Spanish tennis coach and former professional player. As a player she reached a career-high ranking of world No. 16 in 2020, and won 11 singles and 28 doubles titles, including the 2008 French Open, 2008 and 2009 French Open with Virginia Ruano Pascual. Like many of her Spanish compatriots, she was a clay-court specialist who grinds to win most of her rallies. However, unlike most of her fellow Spaniards, she preferred to play on hardcourts. Giulia Casoni (; born 19 April 1978) is a retired Italian tennis player. As a junior player, she won 1996 French Open in doubles, while her best professional results include singles quarterfinals at the Internazionali Femminili di Palermo in 1999 and Tier I Italian Open in 2000, and three WTA Tour doubles titles. She was a member of Italy Fed Cup team from 2000 to 2001, and won three doubles titles at WTA tournaments. Casoni defeated players such as Dominique Monami, Katarina Srebotnik, Mariya Koryttseva, Francesca Schiavone, Émilie Loit and Nuria Llagostera Vives. Mariya Serhiyivna Koryttseva ( uk, Марія Сергіївна Коритцева; born 25 May 1985) is a Ukrainian former tennis player. On 18 August 2008, she achieved her career-high singles ranking of world No. 50. The 2005 WTA Tour was the elite professional tennis circuit organized by the Women's Tennis Association (WTA) for the 2005 tennis season. The 2005 WTA Tour included the four Grand Slam tournaments, the WTA Tour Championships and the WTA Tier I, Tier II, Tier III, Tier IV and Tier V events. Klára Koukalová (formerly Zakopalová; born 24 February 1982) is a retired Czech tennis player. She was born and still lives in Prague. Having turned professional in 1999, she reached a career-high singles ranking of world No. 20, on 15 April 2013. In doubles, she reached a career-high ranking of 31, on 19 May 2014.
