The 2004 ATP Buenos Aires was a men's tennis tournament played on outdoor clay courts at the Buenos Aires Lawn Tennis Club in Buenos Aires, Argentina and was part of the International Series of the 2004 ATP Tour. ATP International Series
The ATP International Series (known from 1990 to 1997 as the ATP World Series) was a series of professional tennis tournaments held internationally as part of the ATP Tour from 2000 to 2008. The series was renamed ATP Tour 250 in 2009. International Series offered players cash prizes (tournaments have purses from $416,000 to $1,000,000) and the ability to earn ATP ranking points. They generally offered less prize money and fewer points than the ATP International Series Gold, but more than tournaments on the ATP Challenger Series. Clay Court
A clay court is one of the types of tennis court on which the sport of tennis, originally known as "lawn tennis", is played. Clay courts are made of crushed stone, brick, shale, or other unbound mineral aggregate depending on the tournament. The French Open uses clay courts, the only Grand Slam tournament to do so. Clay courts are more common in Continental Europe and Latin America than in North America, Asia-Pacific or Britain. Two main types exist: red clay, the more common variety, and green clay, also known as "rubico", which is a harder surface. Although less expensive to construct than other types of tennis courts, the maintenance costs of clay are high as the surface must be rolled to preserve flatness. The Buenos Aires Lawn Tennis Club is a private tennis club located in the Palermo neighborhood of Buenos Aires, Argentina. The club is the host of the ATP Buenos Aires, an ATP Tour tournament played on clay. Guillermo Coria
Guillermo Sebastián Coria (born 13 January 1982), nicknamed ''El Mago'' (''The Magician'' in Spanish), is an Argentine retired professional tennis player. He reached a career-high ATP world No. 3 singles ranking in May 2004. Coria achieved his best results on clay, where he won eight of his nine ATP singles titles, and during his prime years in 2003 and 2004 was considered "the world's best clay-court player." Lucas Arnold Ker
Lucas Arnold Ker (; born 12 October 1974) is an Argentine former professional tennis player. Arnold Ker started playing tennis in the Olivos Tenis Club of Buenos Aires, under coach Malcolm Campbell. He is the younger brother of Patricio Arnold. He is right-handed and turned professional in 1994. He played several times for the Argentine Davis Cup team, where he made his debut in 1997 against Venezuela. Arnold Ker was Roger Federer's opponent in the latter's first professional match in 1998, beating the 17-year-old future singles world No. 1 and 20-time major singles champion in straight sets. Mariano Hood
Mariano Hood (born 14 August 1973) is a retired left-handed professional Argentine tennis player who specialized in doubles. In his career, Hood won 13 out of the 26 top level doubles finals he was in. He turned professional in 1993, and currently resides in his city of birth, Buenos Aires. He won $ US806,888 in earnings and was coached by Daniel Orsanic. He won his first doubles title in Santiago, Chile in 1998 and Palermo in 2005 was his last title. On October 27, 2003, Hood reached his highest doubles ranking of World Number 20. He partnered either Sebastián Prieto or Lucas Arnold Ker to win most of his doubles titles, although he did have other partnerships as well. Carlos Moyá
Carlos Moyá Llompart (; born 27 August 1976) is a Spanish former world No. 1 tennis player. He was the French Open singles champion in 1998 and was the singles runner-up at the 1997 Australian Open. In 2004, he was part of his country's successful Davis Cup team. He has been Rafael Nadal's primary coach since 2016. Federico Browne
Federico Browne (born 7 April 1976) is a former professional tennis player from Argentina. Career Browne was the number one ranked junior in the world in 1994, winning numerous titles that year, including the Banana Bowl. He was also the 1994 Banana Bowl doubles runner-up, with Carlos Jose Tori. In the 1994 US Open he reached the semi-finals, where he was beaten by Sjeng Schalken and he was a semi-finalist in the Orange Bowl as well, for the second successive year. In 1995, Browne appeared in a Davis Cup tie for Argentina. He played the second singles rubber, against Venezuelan Nicolás Pereira, who beat him in straight sets. Diego Veronelli (; born 5 December 1979) is a former professional tennis player from Argentina. Career Veronelli was a quarter-finalist in the 2003 Campionati Internazionali di Sicilia. He upset second seed Nikolay Davydenko in the opening round and then had a win over Victor Hănescu. In the quarter-finals he was defeated by Paul-Henri Mathieu.
