Heavy Metal Music
Heavy metal (or simply metal) is a genre of rock music that developed in the late 1960s and early 1970s, largely in the United Kingdom and United States. With roots in blues rock, psychedelic rock and acid rock, heavy metal bands developed a thick, monumental sound characterized by distortion (music), distorted guitars, extended guitar solos, emphatic Beat (music), beats and loudness. In 1968, three of the genre's most famous pioneers – Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath and Deep Purple – were founded. Though they came to attract wide audiences, they were often derided by critics. Bury Your Dead is an American metalcore band from Boston, Massachusetts, formed in 2001. The current lineup is guitarist Chris Towning, lead vocalist Mat Bruso, drummer Mark Castillo, and bassist Aaron Patrick. To date, they have had eight releases: one EP (''Bury Your Dead''), one live DVD (''Alive''), and six studio albums ('' You Had Me at Hello'', '' Cover Your Tracks'', '' Beauty and the Breakdown'', ''Bury Your Dead'', '' It's Nothing Personal'' and '' Mosh N' Roll''). History ''You Had Me at Hello'' (2001–2002) In 2001, Bury Your Dead began as a side project of the band Hamartia featuring drummer Mark Castillo and guitarist Brendan "Slim" MacDonald. Jet was an Australian rock band, formed in Melbourne, Victoria in 2001. For most of the band's tenure, it consisted of lead guitarist and vocalist Cameron Muncey, bassist Mark Wilson, and brothers Nic (vocals, rhythm guitar) and Chris Cester (drums, vocals). The group sold 6.5 million albums worldwide, releasing three studio albums: 2003's ''Get Born'', 2006's '' Shine On'' and 2009's ''Shaka Rock''. Ion Dissonance
Ion Dissonance is a Canadian mathcore band from Montreal, Quebec. They are known for their technical style, which switched to a more groove based style with the release of their 2007 album ''Minus the Herd''. In total, the group have released five full-length albums and are well known in the Montreal music scene. History Antoine Lussier and Sebastien Chaput formed Ion Dissonance during the late summer of 2001 with the intention of creating a fusion of hardcore and metal that was more complex and daring than what they have done before. Hinder
Hinder is an American rock band from Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, formed in 2001 by lead singer Austin John Winkler, guitarist Joe "Blower" Garvey, and drummer Cody Hanson with bassist Mike Roden and guitarist Mark King joining in 2003, solidifying the line-up. The band released four studio albums with Winkler; ''Extreme Behavior'' (2005), '' Take It to the Limit'' (2008), ''All American Nightmare'' (2010) and '' Welcome to the Freakshow'' (2012). Cody Hanson, along with former lead singer Austin Winkler, wrote the majority of the band's music on their first four albums. After Winkler left the band in 2013, they looked for a new lead vocalist, and added Marshal Dutton. Hacride
Hacride is a French progressive metal band. Formed in 2001 with musicians coming from an array of different bands, musical backgrounds and styles their sound has evolved from the raw extremities and odd time signatures of technical death metal to one that is more progressive and avant-garde. Biography Hacride was formed in 2001 in the French city of Poitiers by Benoist Danneville (bass), Adrien Grousset (guitar), Samuel Bourreau (vocals) and Olivier Laffond (drums). In 2003 they released their first promo CD entitled ''Cyanide Echoes'', then produced with Matthieu Metzger. Ghoul (band)
Ghoul is an American thrash metal band from Oakland, California. Though the members' actual identities are meant to be concealed, it is known that some members or past members of Ghoul also play or have played in other bands such as Impaled, Dystopia, Wolves in the Throne Room, Exhumed, Phobia, Morbid Angel, Asunder and Morbosidad. Ghoul released their debut album in 2002 and have released five studio albums. History The masked members go by the stage names Cremator, Fermentor, Digestor, and Dissector. The band's lyrics describe a large cast of characters, including themselves. Equilibrium is a German symphonic folk metal band from Bavaria. The band's music combines elements of folk music, pagan metal, melodic black metal and symphonic metal with various other influences. Their riffs reflect traditional Germanic melodies. Their lyrical themes focus on Germanic tales and Germanic mythology. The songs of the band are almost always in German, although most recently they prioritized the English in their songs, mostly with their sixth album ''Renegades'' (2019). History The group toured with Commander and Sycronomica in 2005. Dragonlord (band)
Dragonlord is an American symphonic black metal band that was formed in 2001 as a side project by Eric Peterson and Steve Di Giorgio of Testament, and Steve Smyth of Nevermore. The band is a result of Eric Peterson's interest in darker music, and not being able to do that with Testament he formed Dragonlord. The band combines elements of black metal (screeching vocals, keyboards) with some thrash guitar influences. Lyrical themes vary, either about the rage of a dragon (hence the name), death, war, lost love, Satanic or otherwise anti-religious themes (common in black metal), or combinations. DiGiorgio left the group shortly after its creation and was replaced by former Testament bassist Derrick Ramirez. Smyth left the project in 2005. Decrepit Birth
Decrepit Birth is an American death metal band from Santa Cruz, California. They have released two studio albums through Unique Leader Records and two through Nuclear Blast, and a demo independently. All of their studio albums feature artwork by renowned fantasy artist Dan Seagrave. In October 2021, it was announced vocalist Bill Robinson was taking an "extended hiatus" from the band and was being replaced by Mac Smith, who would tour with the band for the foreseeable future. Cobalt (band)
Cobalt is an American black metal band from Greeley, Colorado, founded in 2002. Cobalt have toured extensively in the US and Europe, including performances at Roadburn Festival in Tilburg, Netherlands and Maryland Deathfest. Background Cobalt began as a solo project of Phil McSorley, under the name Grimness Enshroud, who released one demo. Childhood friend Erik Wunder then joined the band and the name was changed to Cobalt in 2002. The name Cobalt was chosen because, in the words of Wunder, "we wanted a name that didn't entail anything. Something basic. Something elemental. The name 'Cobalt' leaves room for any variety of directions". Wunder drums and performs all of the guitars and bass on the studio albums, and performs the drums live.
