2000 Palanca Awards
The 50th Don Carlos Palanca Memorial Awards for Literature was held on September 1, 2000, at The Peninsula Manila in Makati to commemorate the memory of Don Carlos Palanca Sr. through an endeavor that would promote education and culture in the country. This year saw the inclusion of a new a new category, Future Fiction, open for short stories that deal with the future of the Philippines or the future of Philippine writing, in English and Filipino. Roberto T. Añonuevo, Jose Y. Dalisay Jr., and Edgardo B. Maranan were this year's Palanca Hall of Fame awardees. Añonuevo clinched his fifth first prize for “Ang Resureksiyon” under the Sanaysay category. Dalisay clinched his fifth first prize for “The Woman in the Box” under the Short Story category. And Maranan clinched his fifth first prize for “Tabon and Other Poems” under the Poetry category. The Don Carlos Palanca Memorial Awards for Literature, popularly known as the Palanca Awards, are a set of literary awards for Philippine writers. Usually referred to as the "Pulitzer Prize of the Philippines", it is the country's highest literary honor in terms of prestige. Winning works are entered in the competition either as previously published pieces or in manuscript form. The Palanca Awards, organized by the Carlos Palanca Foundation, is one of the Philippines' longest-running awards programs. It was named after Carlos Palanca Sr. History Palanca Awards was established in 1950 to inspire and recognize Philippine writers, including poets, playwrights and screenwriters, and writers for children. In the 1960s, the Palanca Awards Committee started to fund the publication of Palanca Award-winning plays, and production funds were committed in 1975. The Peninsula Manila
The Peninsula Manila (colloquially Manila Pen or simply Manila Peninsula), is a 5-star luxury hotel in the Philippines. It is located on the corner of Ayala Avenue and Makati Avenue in the Makati Central Business District. It is located also in Barangay Urdaneta. The 49th Don Carlos Palanca Memorial Awards for Literature was held to commemorate the memory of Don Carlos Palanca Sr. through an endeavor that would promote education and culture in the country. This year saw the inclusion of a new Kabataan Division with two categories, open for Essays/Sanaysay in English and Filipino. Elsa Martinez Coscolluela was this year's Palanca Hall of Fame awardee. Coscolluela clinched her fifth first prize for “Original Grace” under the Full-Length Play category. Lakambini A. Sitoy (born 1969) is a Filipino author, journalist and teacher. Her novel ''Sweet Haven'' was published in French translation by Albin Michel as ''Les filles de Sweethaven'' in October 2011, in the original English by the ''New York Review of Books'' in 2014, and by Anvil Publishing Inc. in 2015. She received the David T.K. Wong fellowship from the University of East Anglia, Norwich, United Kingdom, in 2003.
