The 2000 Hamilton Tiger-Cats season was the 43rd season for the team in the Canadian Football League and their 51st overall. The Tiger-Cats finished in second place in the East Division with a 9–9–0–2 record in the first CFL season that awarded points to overtime losses. The Tiger-Cats failed to defend their Grey Cup title when they lost to the Winnipeg Blue Bombers in the East Semi-Final. Canadian Football League East Division
The East Division is one of the two regional divisions of the Canadian Football League, its counterpart being the West Division. Although the CFL was not founded until 1958, the East Division and its clubs are descended from earlier leagues. The four teams in the division are the Toronto Argonauts, Hamilton Tiger-Cats, Montreal Alouettes, and Ottawa Redblacks. Several now-defunct teams have also played in the East Division including two teams from the United States and a large number of teams that have played in Hamilton, Montreal, and Ottawa prior to the current teams from those cities. This is a complete list of seasons competed by the Hamilton Tiger-Cats, a Canadian Football League team. The Hamilton Football Club was formed on November 3, 1869 and was first referred to as the Tigers in a game against the Toronto Argonauts on October 18, 1873, while also wearing black and gold for the first time. In 1941, during World War II, a new team, named the Hamilton Wildcats began playing in the Ontario Rugby Football Union after the Tigers suspended operations due to most of their players fighting in the war. After the Tigers rejoined the IRFU, the two teams were simultaneously competing for the Grey Cup. 2000 Montreal Alouettes Season
The 2000 Montreal Alouettes finished in first place in the East Division with a 12–6 record. This was Anthony Calvillo's first season as the full-time starter, and he didn't disappoint, having an allstar year, first leading his team to the Grey Cup, by beating the Winnipeg Blue Bombers 35–24 in the East Final, as they appeared in the Grey Cup for the first time since 1979, but lost to the BC Lions, who were led by Damon Allen. 2000 BC Lions Season
The 2000 BC Lions finished in third place in the West Division with an 8–10 record. With the team sitting at 3–4, head coach Greg Mohns resigned allowing for receivers coach Steve Buratto to take over the team on an interim basis. The Lions won four of their last five regular season games and entered the post-season with heavy momentum.
