1991–92 San Antonio Spurs Season
The 1991–92 NBA season was the Spurs' 16th season in the National Basketball Association, and 25th season as a franchise. During the off-season, the Spurs acquired Antoine Carr from the Sacramento Kings, then signed free agent Vinnie Johnson in December. After a 10–3 start to the season, the Spurs struggled with mediocrity holding a 21–17 record in late January, as head coach Larry Brown was fired, and soon took a coaching job with the Los Angeles Clippers. At midseason, the team signed three-point specialist Trent Tucker. Under replacement, interim and General Manager Bob Bass, the Spurs held a 27–19 record at the All-Star break, finishing second in the Midwest Division with a 47–35 record. Larry Brown (basketball)
Lawrence Harvey Brown (born September 14, 1940) is an American basketball coach and former player who is currently an assistant coach of the Memphis Tigers. Brown is the only coach in basketball history to win both an NCAA national championship (Kansas Jayhawks, 1988) and an NBA title (Detroit Pistons, 2004). He has a 1,275–965 lifetime professional coaching record in the American Basketball Association (ABA) and the National Basketball Association (NBA) and is the only coach in NBA history to lead eight teams (differing franchises) to the playoffs. He also won an ABA championship as a player with the Oakland Oaks in the 1968–69 season, and an Olympic Gold Medal in 1964. Gregory Ray Sutton (born December 3, 1967) is an American former professional basketball player who was selected by the San Antonio Spurs in the second round (49th pick overall) of the 1991 NBA draft. 1992–93 Portland Trail Blazers Season
The 1992–93 NBA season was the 23rd season for the Portland Trail Blazers in the National Basketball Association. The Trail Blazers entered the season as runners-up in the 1992 NBA Finals, where they lost to the Chicago Bulls in six games. In the off-season, the team signed free agents Rod Strickland, and Mario Elie. The Blazers got off to a fast start winning their first eight games of the season, and held a 31–16 record at the All-Star break. However, Clyde Drexler only played just 49 games due to knee and hamstring injuries. The Blazers finished the season with a 51–31 record, third in the Pacific Division and fourth in the Western Conference. It was their 11th straight trip to the postseason. 1992 NBA Playoffs
The 1992 NBA playoffs was the postseason tournament following the National Basketball Association's 1991-92 season. The tournament concluded with the Eastern Conference champion Chicago Bulls defeating the Western Conference champion Portland Trail Blazers 4 games to 2 in the NBA Finals. Michael Jordan was named NBA Finals MVP for the second straight year. The Blazers won their second Western Conference title in the past three years, third overall in franchise history, behind the leadership of Clyde Drexler. The Jazz made the Western Conference Finals for the first time in franchise history. They returned in 1994 and 1996 before finally breaking through in 1997. Willie Anderson (basketball)
Willie Lloyd Anderson Jr. (born January 8, 1966) is an American former professional basketball player. After attending the University of Georgia, he was selected by the San Antonio Spurs with the 10th pick of the 1988 NBA draft. He played for the Spurs until the 1994–95 season when he was selected in the 1995 expansion draft by the Toronto Raptors. He also played for the New York Knicks and the Miami Heat for the next two seasons. Anderson then moved to Greece to play for Olympiacos and later for AEK Athens which he led to the Euroleague 1998 final. The next season, he signed for Maccabi Tel Aviv from Israel, but was waived at the beginning of the season. After signing, he declared that this would be his last season in professional basketball, and after being waived he did retire. Rod Strickland
Rodney Strickland (born July 11, 1966) is an American basketball coach and former professional basketball player. He is currently the head coach at Long Island University. Prior to LIU, he served as the program manager for the NBA G League's professional path. Strickland played college basketball at DePaul University, where he was awarded All-American honors. He then enjoyed a long career in the National Basketball Association (NBA), playing from 1988 to 2005. Strickland was an assistant coach for the South Florida Bulls, under Orlando Antigua from 2014 to 2017. Clyde Austin Drexler (born June 22, 1962) is an American former professional basketball player and the commissioner of the Big3 3-on-3 basketball league.
