The 1990 World's Strongest Man was the 13th edition of the World's Strongest Man competition and was won by Jón Páll Sigmarsson from Iceland. It was his fourth title after finishing third the previous year, and his last as he did not compete in any future event before his 1993 death. O.D. Wilson from the United States finished second, and Ilkka Nummisto from Finland finished third after finishing sixth the previous year. Joensuu
Joensuu (; krl, Jovensuu; ) is a city and municipality in North Karelia, Finland, located on the northern shore of Lake Pyhäselkä (northern part of Lake Saimaa) at the mouth of the Pielinen River (''Pielisjoki''). As a strongman, he won the 1989 World's Strongest Man, was World Muscle Power champion, and also had numerous other titles including Europe's Strongest Man and Britain's Strongest Man. Following retirement from competitive sport he continued to be involved in strength athletics as a referee, event promoter and coach. Early life Reeves was born in 1962 in Sheffield, Yorkshire. He grew up in the city and went to the City School. At school he had been a swimmer at county level, a centre-forward for his football team and had also played as Number 8 in the rugby union side that won the under-15 Yorkshire Cup. The World's Strongest Man is an international Strongman competition held every year. Organized by American event management company IMG, a subsidiary of Endeavor, it is broadcast in the US during summers and in the UK around the end of December each year. Jón Páll Sigmarsson
Jón Páll Sigmarsson (28 April 1960 – 16 January 1993) was an Icelandic strongman, powerlifter and bodybuilder who was the first man to win the World's Strongest Man four times and the first and only man to win the World Muscle Power Classic five times. He is widely regarded as one of the greatest strongmen of all time, and is credited with developing Iceland's national identity. He was named Icelandic Sportsperson of the Year in 1981, and was one of the best-known Icelandic athletes. In 2012, Jón Páll was inducted into the World's Strongest Man Hall of Fame. Ilkka Nummisto (April 24, 1944 – June 29, 2019) was a Finnish sprint canoer who competed from the mid-1960s to the mid-1970s. Competing in four Summer Olympics, he earned his best finish of fifth in the K-4 1000 m event at Mexico City in 1968. After his Olympic career concluded, Nummisto appeared in the Finals of the World's Strongest Man competition 5 times between 1986 and 1992, including a personal best 3rd place showing in 1990. Henning Thorsen (born October 20, 1959) was a strongman competitor from Denmark. Thorsen was a renowned powerlifter, winning his country's superheavyweight championships 5 times. Adrian Smith (born 18 March 1964) is a former strongman competitor from Great Britain. Adrian started his strength career in bodybuilding before switching over to strongman. László Fekete (born 1958, in Ősi) is a strongman from Hungary. He was ten times Hungarian Strongest Man from 1988 to 1997 and participated in the World's Strongest Man finals of 1988, 1989, 1990 and 1999.
