1990 Hungarian Motorcycle Grand Prix
The 1990 Hungarian motorcycle Grand Prix was the penultimate round of the 1990 Grand Prix motorcycle racing season. It took place on the weekend of 31 August–2 September 1990 at the Hungaroring circuit. 500 cc race report Wayne Rainey gets the start, then it’s Eddie Lawson, Kevin Schwantz, Wayne Gardner and Mick Doohan. Randy Mamola has a small highside and looks like he’s going to save it, but heads into the gravel and it falls as he bumps the tire barrier. Doohan is on the move as he passes Gardner and Schwantz and catches up to Lawson. It’s a small gap up to Rainey. As they brake at the end of the start-finish straight, Lawson makes a mistake and goes wide, losing contact with Doohan, who catches Rainey. Doohan passes Rainey on the straight as he did with Lawson, but Rainey can’t fight back as his bike breaks down. This is his first DNF, but the championship is sewn-up. Hungaroring
The Hungaroring is a motorsport racetrack in Mogyoród, Pest County, Hungary where the Formula One Hungarian Grand Prix is held. In 1986, it became the location of the first Formula One Grand Prix behind the Iron Curtain. Bernie Ecclestone wanted a race in the USSR, but a Hungarian friend recommended Budapest. They wanted a street circuit similar to the Circuit de Monaco to be built in the Népliget – Budapest's largest park – but the government decided to build a new circuit just outside the city near a major highway. Construction works started on 1 October 1985. It was built in eight months, less time than any other Formula One circuit. The first race was held on 24 March 1986, in memory of János Drapál, the first Hungarian who won motorcycle Grand Prix races. Eddie Laycock (born 25 May 1961) is a former professional motorcycle racer from Dublin, Ireland. Motorcycle racing career A two-time Isle of Man TT race winner, in 1986, Laycock finished runner-up to Brian Reid in the TT Formula 2 World Championship. In 1987 he beat Reid to win thJunior TT 250ccrace, and in 1989 won thSupersport 400ccRace. He also competed in the 500cc World Championship on Millar Racing machines from 1988 to 1992, with a best race result of 9th at the Dutch TT in 1992, and a best championship ranking of 12th in 1991. Plaisir () is a commune located in the heart of the Yvelines department in the Île-de-France in north-central France. It is located in the western suburbs of Paris, from the center of Paris. Marco Papa
Marco Papa (16 March 1958 in Perugia, Umbria, Italy, – 9 September 1999 near Adro Italy) was a Grand Prix motorcycle road racer. His most successful year was in 1990 when he finished in 13th place in the 500cc world championship aboard a Moto Club Perugia sponsored Honda NS500. Ronald Haslam (born 22 June 1956) is an English former Grand Prix motorcycle road racer who had been racing for over thirty years, winning two World titles, four British championships and having ridden in almost 110 GPs. Haslam spends much of his time helping his son Leon Haslam in his racing career and previously trained riders and racers alike at his former Race School based at Donington racetrack, Leicestershire. Alfonso Pons Ezquerra (Barcelona 9 November 1959), better known as Sito Pons, is a Spanish former professional Grand Prix motorcycle racer. Cagiva is an Italian motorcycle manufacturer. It was founded in 1950 by Giovanni Castiglioni in Varese, originally producing small metal components. Giovanni's sons, Claudio and Gianfranco Castiglioni, went into the motorcycle industry in 1978. The name is a portmanteau derived from the founder's name 'Giovanni Castiglioni' and the founding location, i.e. ''CAstiglioni GIovanni VArese''. Alex Barros
Alexandre Barros (born October 18, 1970) is a Brazilian former professional motorcycle road racer who is a 7-time 500cc/MotoGP race winner and also a race winner in Superbike World Championship. After a long Grand Prix career, in 2006 he moved to the Superbike World Championship. He returned to MotoGP for 2007, but retired by the end of the season. Career Early career Barros started racing motorcycles at the age of 8, when he won on his debut in the Brazilian minibike championship. In the next two years, he was twice Brazilian moped champion. Carl Fogarty
Carl George Fogarty, (born 1 July 1965), often known as Foggy, is an English former motorcycle racer and one of the most successful World Superbike racers of all time. He also holds the second highest number of race wins at 59. He is the son of former motorcycle racer George Fogarty. In 2011, Fogarty was named a FIM Legend for his motorcycling achievements. Retired from racing since 2000, Fogarty is renowned for his high corner speed riding style, combined with an aggressive competitiveness, which brought him 59 victories and four World Superbike Championships (1994, 1995, 1998 and 1999).
