Eddie Laycock
Eddie Laycock (born 25 May 1961) is a former professional motorcycle racer from Dublin, Ireland. Motorcycle racing career A two-time Isle of Man TT race winner, in 1986, Laycock finished runner-up to Brian Reid in the TT Formula 2 World Championship. In 1987 he beat Reid to win thJunior TT 250ccrace, and in 1989 won thSupersport 400ccRace. He also competed in the 500cc World Championship on Millar Racing machines from 1988 to 1992, with a best race result of 9th at the Dutch TT in 1992, and a best championship ranking of 12th in 1991. In 2015, Laycock and former sponsor Gerry Lawlor prepared a Yamaha TZ250 for Ian Lougher to ride in the Lightweight class at the Isle of Man Classic TT . 1988 Austrian Motorcycle Grand Prix
The 1988 Austrian motorcycle Grand Prix was the seventh round of the 1988 Grand Prix motorcycle racing season. It took place on the weekend of 10–12 June 1988 at the Salzburgring. 500 cc race report Christian Sarron on pole, then Eddie Lawson, Niall Mackenzie, Kevin Schwantz and Wayne Gardner. Gardner got the first turn from Lawson, Rainey, Ron Haslam, Schwantz, et al. Didier De Radiguès moved up to 4th and the field started to get strung out. Schwantz gave Ron Haslam a little bump as he passed and Sarron crashed out. Lawson and Gardner swapped the lead, allowing Rainey and De Radiguès to close. De Radiguès put pressure on Lawson his teammate in 2nd, and Rainey seemed to be dropping away. Lawson and Gardner drop De Radiguès. 1988 German Motorcycle Grand Prix
The 1988 German motorcycle Grand Prix was the sixth round of the 1988 Grand Prix motorcycle racing season. It took place on the weekend of 27–29 May 1988 at the Nürburgring circuit. 500 cc race report Wet race. Wayne Gardner on pole. Wayne Rainey took the first turn from Eddie Lawson, Pierfrancesco Chili, Christian Sarron, Kevin Schwantz (from the second row). Sarron, considered a good wet rider, took the lead. At the end of lap one it was Sarron, Schwantz, Lawson, Kevin Magee, Rainey, and Chili. Schwantz moved into first, then it was Sarron, Magee, Lawson, and Rainey. Schwantz had a large lead. Magee went down. The track was drying slightly. The 1988 Nations motorcycle Grand Prix was the fifth race of the 1988 Grand Prix motorcycle racing season. It took place on the weekend of 20–22 May 1988, at the Autodromo Dino Ferrari. 500 cc race report Wayne Gardner on pole. Through the first turn, it was Eddie Lawson, Kevin Schwantz, Didier De Radiguès, Pierfrancesco Chili and Gardner. At the end of the first lap, it was Lawson, De Radiguès, Schwantz, Gardner, Chili and Wayne Rainey. Another few laps and it was Lawson, Gardner, De Radiguès, then a small gap to Rainey and Schwantz. Lawson got a gap from a re-formed quartet behind. Christian Sarron went down at a chicane, forcing Kevin Magee and Niall Mackenzie off the track. The 1988 "Expo 92" Grand Prix was the fourth race of the 1988 Grand Prix motorcycle racing season. It took place on the weekend of 29 April–1 May 1988 at the Circuito Permanente de Jerez. 1988 Spanish Motorcycle Grand Prix
The 1988 Spanish motorcycle Grand Prix was the third round of the 1988 Grand Prix motorcycle racing season. It took place on the weekend of 22–24 April 1988 at the Circuito Permanente Del Jarama. This was the first and only victory of the Australian Kevin Magee. 500 cc race report Kevin Magee was on pole. Eddie Lawson got the lead at the first turn from Raymond Roche, Pierfrancesco Chili, et al. At the end of the first lap, Lawson had a gap from Christian Sarron, Wayne Gardner and Magee. Magee moved into 2nd and started to close the gap to Lawson; he managed to pass and took the win by a few lengths. After 21 years, this would be the last Spanish motorcycle Grand Prix on the Jarama circuit. The 1988 United States motorcycle Grand Prix was the second round of the 1988 Grand Prix motorcycle racing season. It took place on the weekend of April 8–10, 1988, at the Laguna Seca Raceway. 500 cc race report The first U.S. GP in 23 years (the Daytona in 1965 was the previous). Wayne Rainey was on pole. Through the first hairpin it was Wayne Gardner, Niall Mackenzie, Rainey, Kevin Schwantz, et al. Eddie Lawson was down in 6th place, with Kevin Magee and Gardner up front. 1988 Japanese Motorcycle Grand Prix
The 1988 Japanese motorcycle Grand Prix was the first round of the 1988 Grand Prix motorcycle racing season. It took place on the weekend of 25–27 March 1988 at the Suzuka Circuit. 500 cc race report Tadahiko Taira was on pole of the 5-column grid (it became 4-columns in 1990). Wayne Rainey got the start and lead through the first turns, with Kevin Schwantz, Wayne Gardner and Christian Sarron behind. Schwantz took the inside of the hairpin, but Rainey dove back under and got him back on the exit; Schwantz succeeded in taking the lead on Spoon. At the end of the 1st lap, it was Schwantz and Gardner, then a gap to Toshihiko Honma (riding #46) and Sarron. Gardner and Schwantz swapped the lead many times. Eddie Lawson and Niall Mackenzie moved through the field to 3rd and 4th. Norihiko Fujiwara lowsided at the hairpin. Ulster Grand Prix
The Ulster Grand Prix is a motorcycle race that takes place on the Dundrod Circuit made up entirely of closed-off public roads near Belfast, Northern Ireland. The first races took place in 1922 and in 1935 and 1948 the Fédération Internationale de Motocyclisme gave it the title ''Grand Prix d'Europe''. The Ulster Grand Prix was included as one of the races in the inaugural 1949 Grand Prix motorcycle racing season (now MotoGP), a place it held until 1971. It also counted for the Formula TT Championship between 1979 and 1990.
