1984 Espirito Santo Trophy
The 1984 Espirito Santo Trophy took place 30 October – 2 November at Hong Kong Golf Club in Fonling, Hong Kong. It was the 11th women's golf World Amateur Team Championship for the Espirito Santo Trophy. The tournament was a 72-hole stroke play team event with 22 teams, each with three players. The best two scores for each round counted towards the team total. The United States team won the Trophy, defending the title from two years ago and winning their ninth title, beating team France by two strokes. France earned the silver medal while the combined team of Great Britain and Ireland took the bronze on third place another three strokes behind. Teams 22 teams contested the event. Edwina Kennedy
Edwina Jane Kirkby (née Kennedy), born 10 June 1959, is a former Australian amateur golfer. In 1978, she was the first Australian to win the British Ladies Amateur and was a member of the winning 1978 Australian Espirito Santo Trophy team. Early life and education In 1959, Kennedy was born in Sydney, Australia. During her childhood, Kennedy played at a golf club in Wentworth Falls, New South Wales. For her post-secondary education, Kennedy went to Macquarie University for a degree in economics. Amateur career During the 1970s and 1980s, Kennedy won multiple amateur golf championships throughout Australia. Sports in Hong Kong are a significant part of its culture. Evelyn Orley
Evelyn Orley (born 10 July 1966) is a Swiss former professional golfer. Family Orley's grandfather Zoltan Őssy-Őlvy represented Hungary in the 1936 Summer Olympics in shooting, and her father Thomas Orley, born in Budapest, competed in fencing for the U.S. in the 1964 Summer Olympics. Her father later moved to Switzerland, where Evelyn was born. Her ultimate dream in golf had been to compete in the Olympics, even petitioning the International Olympic Committee in 1988 to add the sport. Career Orley won the 1983 Girls Amateur Championship and played college golf with the Duke Blue Devils at Duke University in Durham, North Carolina where she won the 1985 ACC Championship individually. Anna Iliana Maria Gabriella Oxenstierna (born 13 June 1963) is a former Swedish professional golfer. She played on the Ladies European Tour and won the 1989 TEC Players Championship. Early life Born into an athletic and golfing family, her father Thure Gabriel Oxenstierna is the architect of Roslagen Golf Club where her brother Alexander later were general manager. Her grandfather Johan Gabriel Oxenstierna won gold in modern pentathlon at the 1932 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles. Liselotte Maria "Lotta" Neumann (born 20 May 1966) is a Swedish professional golfer. When she recorded her first LPGA Tour win, by claiming the 1988 U.S. Women's Open title, Neumann also became the first Swedish golfer, male or female, to win a major championship. Early years Neumann was born and grew up in Finspång, Sweden. Her father Rune was a former football player and coach of a local girls football team. Michiko Hattori ( ja, 服部道子, born 8 September 1968) is a Japanese professional golfer and former Player of the Year on the LPGA of Japan Tour. Gillian Stewart (born 21 October 1958) is a Scottish professional golfer who played on the Ladies European Tour (LET) from 1985 to 2000. She recorded three LET wins and was runner-up in eight tournaments. As an amateur, she won the Girls Amateur Championship and played in the Vagliano Trophy, Curtis Cup and Espirito Santo Trophy. Penny B. Grice-Whittaker ( Grice, 11 October 1964) is a former English golfer turned singer. As an amateur golfer, Grice-Whittaker won multiple events in England and was a bronze medalist for the Great Britain and Ireland team at the 1984 Espirito Santo Trophy. She also participated at the Curtis Cup that year for Great Britain before turning professional in 1985. Ingeborg Cécilia Mourgue d'Algue (née Perslow) (born 4 August 1946, in Sweden) is a French - Swedish amateur golfer. Early life Mourgue d'Algue, at the time named Cécilia Perslow, grew up playing golf with her parents Martin and Ingeborg at Örebro Golf Club, the 18-hole course situated outside Örebro in the province of Närke in the middle of Sweden. Her mother Ingeborg became the ladies' golf champion of both the club and the province. In her teenage years, Perslow traveled between amateur tournaments in Sweden, often in a small car together with friend Liv Wollin, at the time the dominant female golfer in Sweden.
