1975 (band)
The 1975 are an English pop rock band formed in 2002 in Wilmslow, Cheshire. Now based in Manchester, the band consists of lead vocalist and rhythm guitarist Matthew "Matty" Healy, lead guitarist Adam Hann, bassist Ross MacDonald, and drummer George Daniel. The band members met in secondary school and performed together as teenagers. Gigs, organised by a council worker, led the band to sign with Dirty Hit and Polydor Records. They opened for several major acts and released a series of extended plays ('' Facedown'', ''Sex'', ''Music for Cars'', '' IV'') from 2012–13, before releasing their UK chart-topping self-titled debut album (2013), which includes the popular singles "Sex", "Chocolate", and "Robbers". Wilmslow ( ) is a market town and civil parish in the unitary authority of Cheshire East in Cheshire, England, south of Manchester city centre. The population was 24,497 at the 2011 Census. History Toponymy Wilmslow derives its name from Old English ''Wīghelmes hlāw'' = "mound of a man called Wīghelm." Lindow Man Much about the local Iron Age history of Wilmslow was uncovered with the discovery of Lindow Man, in Lindow Moss. Preserved in the peat bogs for 2,000 years, Lindow Man is one of the most important Iron Age finds in the country. ''Music for Cars'' is the third extended play (EP) by English band The 1975, released on 4 March 2013 by Dirty Hit, Polydor Records and Vagrant Records. Development of the record began after the band completed their eponymous debut album. Working with producer Mike Crossey, the 1975 created "Chocolate" during the album's recording sessions before building the other tracks of the EP around the song. The band sought to create a cohesive concept for the record, primarily producing the remaining four songs by themselves in the bedroom of singer Healy at Rose Cottage in Cheshire. An electronic, ambient and experimental record, ''Music for Cars'' is composed of atmospheric songs containing a cinematic sound.
