13th Parliament Of Singapore
The 13th Parliament of Singapore was a meeting of the Parliament of Singapore. The first session commenced on 15 January 2016 and was dissolved on 23 June 2020. The membership was set by the 2015 Singapore General Election on 11 September 2015, and changed twice throughout the term; one was the resignation of Bukit Batok Single Member Constituency MP David Ong in 2016, and the resignation of Marsiling–Yew Tee Group Representation Constituency MP and Speaker Halimah Yacob in 2017. The 13th Parliament is controlled by a People's Action Party majority, led by Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong and members of the cabinet, which assumed power on 1 October 2015. The Opposition is led by the Secretary General of the Workers' Party, Pritam Singh. Tan Chuan-Jin, of the People's Action Party, is the Speaker of Parliament as of 11 September 2017. Halimah Yacob
Halimah Yacob (Jawi script: ; born 23 August 1954) is a Singaporean politician and former lawyer who has been serving as the eighth president of Singapore since 2017. Prior to her presidency, she was the country's Speaker of the Parliament of Singapore, parliament speaker. She is also the first female president in Singapore's history. A former member of the governing People's Action Party (PAP), she was the Parliament of Singapore, Member of Parliament (MP) representing the Bukit Batok East ward of Jurong Group Representation Constituency, Jurong GRC between 2001 and 2015, and the Marsiling ward of Marsiling–Yew Tee Group Representation Constituency, Marsiling–Yew Tee GRC between 2015 and 2017. The membership was set by the 2011 Singapore General Election on 7 May 2011 and changed three times due to expulsion of Hougang Single Member Constituency MP in 2012 and resignation of Punggol East Single Member Constituency MP and Speaker of Parliament over extra-marital affairs in 2013, as well as the death of Lee Kuan Yew, former Prime Minister of Singapore and MP of Tanjong Pagar Group Representation Constituency. Janil Arusha Puthucheary ( ta, ஜனில் புதுச்சேரி; born 1972) is a Malaysian-born Singaporean politician and paediatrician who has been serving as Minister of State for Communications and Information since 2018 and Minister of State for Health since 2020. He has also been serving as Party Whip of the People's Action Party since 2019. Leon Perera (born 1970) is a Singaporean politician. A member of the opposition Workers' Party (WP), he has been the Member of Parliament (MP) representing the Serangoon division of Aljunied GRC since 2020.
