12th Parliament Of Singapore
The 12th Parliament of Singapore was a meeting of the Parliament of Singapore. The first session commenced on 10 October 2011 and was prorogued on 25 August 2015. The membership was set by the 2011 Singapore General Election on 7 May 2011 and changed three times due to expulsion of Hougang Single Member Constituency MP in 2012 and resignation of Punggol East Single Member Constituency MP and Speaker of Parliament over extra-marital affairs in 2013, as well as the death of Lee Kuan Yew, former Prime Minister of Singapore and MP of Tanjong Pagar Group Representation Constituency. The 12th Parliament was controlled by a People's Action Party majority, led by Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong and members of the cabinet, which assumed power on 7 May 2011. Michael Palmer (politician)
Michael Anthony Palmer (born 14 July 1968) is a Singaporean lawyer and politician who served as Speaker of the Parliament of Singapore from 2011 until his resignation in 2012. A former member of the governing People's Action Party (PAP), he was the Member of Parliament (MP) representing the Punggol East ward of Pasir Ris–Punggol GRC between 2006 and 2011, and Punggol East SMC between 2011 and 2012. Career Palmer was called to the Singapore Bar in 1995 and joined the law firm Harry Elias Partnership as a legal consultant before becoming a partner in 1998. In April 2013, Palmer left Harry Elias Partnership and joined the law firm Lawrence Quahe & Woo. The firm was renamed Quahe Woo & Palmer when he joined. Teo Ho Pin
Teo Ho Pin ( zh, s=张俰宾, p=Zhāng Huòbīn; born 19 January 1960) is a Singaporean former politician who served as Mayor of North West District between 2001 and 2020. A member of the governing People's Action Party (PAP), Teo was the Member of Parliament (MP) for Bukit Panjang SMC between 2006 and 2020, the Bukit Panjang ward of Holland–Bukit Panjang GRC between 2001 and 2006 and the Bukit Panjang ward of Sembawang GRC between 1996 and 2001. Gan Kim Yong ( zh, s=颜金勇, p=Yán Jīnyǒng; born 9 February 1959) is a Singaporean politician who has been serving as Minister for Trade and Industry since 2021. People's Action Party
The People's Action Party (abbreviation: PAP) is a major conservative centre-right political party in Singapore and is one of the three contemporary political parties represented in Parliament, alongside the opposition Workers' Party (WP) and Progress Singapore Party (PSP). Initially founded as a traditional centre-left party in 1954, the leftist faction was soon expelled from the party in 1961 by Lee Kuan Yew in the midst of Singapore's merger with Malaysia, desiring to move the party's ideology towards the centre after its first electoral victory in 1959.
