1998 Italian Superturismo Championship
The 1998 Italian Superturismo Championship was the twelfth edition of the Italian Superturismo Championship. The season began in Autodromo del Levante, Binetto on 17 May and finished in ACI Vallelunga Circuit, Vallelunga on 4 October, after ten rounds. Actually the season 1998 started months before into the court between the 2 promoters Salerno Corse (the historical promoter of the serie since 1987) and Sponsor Service who was supported by the 3 manufactures (Alfa, Audi, BMW). After a long discussion after the championship were already started, it was declared that Sponsor Service were the new promoter for the next 3 years. The first change of Sponsor Service was to pass from the smaller TMC channel to Italian state channel RAI TV. The idea of the new promoter (and manufactures too) was that if the races were on RAI Channel before the start of f1, there would have been better results in term of audience. Italian Superturismo Championship
The Italian Superturismo Championship (Campionato Italiano Superturismo) is Italy's national Auto racing, motorsport series for Touring car racing, touring cars. It was established in 1987 and its drivers' title has been held by such notable drivers as 24 Hours of Le Mans, Le Mans winner Emanuele Pirro and two-time Champ Car champion Alex Zanardi. History Established in 1987 under Group A rules the series saw champions like Johnny Cecotto, Roberto Ravaglia and Nicola Larini winning the title before switching to Supertouring regulations in 1993. That season was won by Ravaglia in a BMW E36, BMW 318i. The next years would be dominated by Audi and their Audi 80, 80 and Audi A4, A4 Quattro models as Emanuele Pirro won in 1994 and 1995 and Rinaldo Capello in 1996. Antonio Tamburini (born 15 September 1966) is a former Italian racing driver. He has competed in various single-seater and touring car championships before retiring in 1998. Opel Vectra
The Opel Vectra is a mid-size car (large family car) that was engineered and produced by the German automaker Opel from 1988 until 2010. Emanuele Moncini
Emanuele Moncini (born 13 October 1973 in Breno, Italy) is an Italian racing driver currently competing in the FIA GT1 World Championship for Sunred. Moncini raced in the Italian Superturismo Championship before embarking on an international career. In 1999 he raced in the Sports Racing World Cup where he won one round at Enna-Pergusa. He was vice-champion in the Italian GT Championship in 2008 and won the European Abarth 500 Trophy the following year. Moncini returned to the Italian GT Championship in 2010 and won the championship in a Villorba Corse Ferrari 430 alongside ex-Formula 1 driver Andrea Montermini, with five wins. Christian Pescatori
Christian Pescatori is a professional racecar driver from Italy. He was born in Brescia, on 1 December 1971. Pescatori started his career in single-seater racing, becoming Italian Formula 3 Champion in 1993, before moving up to Formula 3000. He later moved on to sports car racing, where he had more success. Pescatori won the Sports Racing World Cup in 2000, and the FIA GT Championship's N-GT class in 2001, both for JMB Racing. In 2002, he became an Audi works driver, winning the 12 Hours of Sebring. Miguel Pedro Caetano Ramos (born 26 September 1971 in Porto) is a Portuguese racing driver. He is a former Spanish and Italian GT champion, and has raced in the FIA GT1 World Championship and the 24 Hours of Le Mans.
