1998 BC Lions Season
The 1998 BC Lions finished in third place in the West Division with a 9–9 record. After beginning the year 3-6, head coach and general manager Adam Rita stepped down as coach in order to focus on his GM duties. Greg Mohns replaced him and led the Lions to a 6-3 finish and a playoff berth. They appeared in the West semi-final, but lost to the Edmonton Eskimos. Saskatchewan Roughriders
The Saskatchewan Roughriders are a professional Canadian football team based in Regina, Saskatchewan. The Roughriders compete in the Canadian Football League (CFL) as a member club of the league's West Division. The Roughriders were founded in 1910 as the Regina Rugby Club. Although Saskatchewan was not the first team to play football in Western Canada, the club has maintained an unbroken organizational continuity since their founding. Calgary Stampeders
The Calgary Stampeders are a professional Canadian football team based in Calgary, Alberta. The Stampeders compete in the West Division of the Canadian Football League (CFL). The club plays its home games at McMahon Stadium and are the third-oldest active franchise in the CFL. The Stampeders were officially founded in 1945, although there were clubs operating in Calgary since the 1890s. The Calgary Stampeders have won eight Grey Cups, most recently in 2018, from their appearances in 17 Grey Cup Championship games. CFL West Division
The West Division is one of the two regional divisions of the Canadian Football League (CFL), its counterpart being the East Division. Although the CFL was not founded until 1958, the West Division and its clubs are descended from earlier leagues. The five teams in the West Division are the BC Lions, Calgary Stampeders, Edmonton Elks, Saskatchewan Roughriders, and Winnipeg Blue Bombers. There were also two now-defunct teams from the mid 1990s United States expansion of the CFL who played in the West Division. 1998 Calgary Stampeders Season
The 1998 Calgary Stampeders season was the 41st season for the team in the Canadian Football League and their 64th overall. The Stampeders finished first in the West Division for the seventh time in nine seasons with a 12–6 record. The Stampeders defeated the Edmonton Eskimos in the West Final and then beat the Hamilton Tiger-Cats in the 86th Grey Cup in the first Grey Cup matchup between those two teams. Wally Buono completed his seventh season as the team's head coach and fifth as the general manager. It was the fourth Grey Cup victory in Stampeders history and Buono became the first head coach to win multiple Grey Cup championships for the franchise. Linebacker
Linebacker (LB) is a playing position in gridiron football. Linebackers are members of the defensive team, and line up three to five yards behind the line of scrimmage and the defensive linemen. They are the "middle ground" of defenders, playing closer to the line of scrimmage than the defensive backs (secondary), but farther back than the defensive linemen.
