Canadian Football League East Division
The East Division is one of the two regional divisions of the Canadian Football League, its counterpart being the West Division. Although the CFL was not founded until 1958, the East Division and its clubs are descended from earlier leagues. The four teams in the division are the Toronto Argonauts, Hamilton Tiger-Cats, Montreal Alouettes, and Ottawa Redblacks. Several now-defunct teams have also played in the East Division including two teams from the United States and a large number of teams that have played in Hamilton, Montreal, and Ottawa prior to the current teams from those cities. 1998 Calgary Stampeders Season
The 1998 Calgary Stampeders season was the 41st season for the team in the Canadian Football League and their 64th overall. The Stampeders finished first in the West Division for the seventh time in nine seasons with a 12–6 record. The Stampeders defeated the Edmonton Eskimos in the West Final and then beat the Hamilton Tiger-Cats in the 86th Grey Cup in the first Grey Cup matchup between those two teams. Wally Buono completed his seventh season as the team's head coach and fifth as the general manager. It was the fourth Grey Cup victory in Stampeders history and Buono became the first head coach to win multiple Grey Cup championships for the franchise. Christopher Perez (born June 21, 1969) is a former American football offensive tackle who played six seasons in the Canadian Football League (CFL) with the Memphis Mad Dogs, Toronto Argonauts, Winnipeg Blue Bombers and BC Lions. He was drafted by the Miami Dolphins in the fifth round of the 1992 NFL Draft. He played college football at the University of Kansas and attended William Fremd High School in Palatine, Illinois. Joe Fleming
Joe Fleming (born December 5, 1971) is a former Canadian Football League defensive end. Over his ten years in the CFL he played for three teams and did not play during the 2002 CFL season. Fleming announced his retirement prior to the 2006 CFL football season. High School Years Fleming attended Xaverian Brothers High School in Westwood, Massachusetts, and was a star in both football and hockey, along with being a top student. Eric Blount
Eric Blount (born September 22, 1970) is a former all-star running back in the Canadian Football League and National Football League. A North Carolina Tar Heels, North Carolina Tar Heel in college, Blount was drafted by and played two seasons with the Phoenix Cardinals. He primarily returned kicks in the NFL. In 1994, he signed with the Edmonton Eskimos and rushed for 1091 yards that season. After two more years with the Esks he starred with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers in 1998, being named an all-star; he led the league in total yards (3816, 2nd best in CFL history), punt return yards (1051), kickoff return yards (1695, a CFL record at the time), rushed for 599 yards, and added 339 more yards on 45 caught passes. He also played 4 regular season games with the Toronto Argonauts and 3 regular season games with the Montreal Alouettes, both in 1999. Glen Scrivener
Glen Scrivener (born July 14, 1967) is a former professional Canadian football defensive tackle, playing in the Canadian Football League for 12 seasons. He played for five different teams from 1990-2001 while notably winning the Grey Cup with the BC Lions in 1994. He played college football at William Jewell College in Liberty, Missouri for the Cardinals. Professional career Glen Scrivener was drafted in the first round by the Saskatchewan Roughriders with the third overall pick in the 1990 CFL Draft. He was traded to the BC Lions in 1992, and played for the 1994 Lions club that won the 82nd Grey Cup. He had a chance for a second Grey Cup in 1996, during his first stint with the Edmonton Eskimos, but the team fell to Toronto in the 84th Grey Cup game. Tom Pate Memorial Award
Tom Pate Memorial Award, selected annually by the Canadian Football League Players' Association, is awarded to a player with outstanding sportsmanship and someone who has made a significant contribution to his team, his community and Association. The award winner must display these qualities such that it distinguishes him from his peers. The award is named in the memory of deceased CFL player Tom Pate. A 23-year-old rookie with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats, on October 11, 1975, he was critically injured in a game against the Calgary Stampeders. He never regained consciousness and died three days later. The award is also known as the CFLPA's Tom Pate Outstanding Community Service Award.
