The 1997 Romanian Open was an ATP men's tennis tournament held on outdoor clay courts in Bucharest, Romania that was part of the World Series of the 1997 ATP Tour The 1997 ATP Tour was the elite tour for professional tennis organised by the ATP that year. ATP World Series
The ATP International Series (known from 1990 to 1997 as the ATP World Series) was a series of professional tennis tournaments held internationally as part of the ATP Tour from 2000 to 2008. The series was renamed ATP Tour 250 in 2009. International Series offered players cash prizes (tournaments have purses from $416,000 to $1,000,000) and the ability to earn ATP ranking points. They generally offered less prize money and fewer points than the ATP International Series Gold, but more than tournaments on the ATP Challenger Series. Clay Court
A clay court is one of the types of tennis court on which the sport of tennis, originally known as "lawn tennis", is played. Clay courts are made of crushed stone, brick, shale, or other unbound mineral aggregate depending on the tournament. The French Open uses clay courts, the only Grand Slam tournament to do so. Javier Sánchez Vicario (; born 1 February 1968) is a former top-ten doubles professional tennis player from Spain. Sánchez won the US Open junior singles and doubles title in 1986, and reached the quarterfinal stage in the US Open men's singles event twice - in 1991 and 1996. Career Sánchez won the US Open junior singles and doubles title in 1986, partnering with Tomás Carbonell, and became world no. 1 junior that same year. Romanian Open
The Romanian Open (also known as the BRD Năstase Țiriac Trophy) was a professional men's tennis tournament played on outdoor clay courts. It was part of the ATP World Tour 250 series of the ATP Tour. It was held annually in Bucharest, Romania, since 1993. Its name is taken from Romania's famous tennis players Ilie Năstase and Ion Țiriac. The tournament never saw a Romanian winner in singles (though the 2005 edition saw two Romanian players reaching the semifinals, and the 2007 edition saw Victor Hănescu reach the finals), but a Romanian pair (Andrei Pavel and Gabriel Trifu) took home the doubles title in 1998. Also, Horia Tecău took three consecutive doubles titles at the tournament (2012, 2013 & 2014), each time with a different partner. Andrea Gaudenzi
Andrea Gaudenzi (; born 30 July 1973) is an Italian former tennis player and the current chairman of the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) since January 2020. Gaudenzi was born in Faenza, Italy, in the province of Ravenna, and turned professional in 1990 after becoming Junior World Champion by winning both the French Open and US Open junior titles. He reached a career high ATP singles ranking of world No. 18 in 1995.
