The 1996–97 Ranji Trophy was the 63rd season of the Ranji Trophy. Bombay won the final against Delhi on first innings lead. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is the national governing body for cricket in India. Its headquarters are situated at Cricket centre, Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. The BCCI is the richest governing body of cricket in the world and is part of the ''Big Three'' of international cricket, along with Cricket Australia and the England and Wales Cricket Board. Hyderabad Cricket Team
The Hyderabad cricket team is a domestic cricket team based in the city of Hyderabad, Telangana, run by the Hyderabad Cricket Association. It is part of the Ranji Trophy Elite Group and has seen scattered success over its many years in the Ranji Trophy circuit. Over its long history in the Ranji Trophy it has won twice and come runner up three times and has made one appearance in the Irani Trophy. Wasim Jaffer
Wasim Jaffer (born 16 February 1978) is an Indian retired professional cricketer. He was a right-handed opening batsman and an occasional right arm off-break bowler. He is currently the highest run-scorer in Ranji Trophy cricket, surpassing Amol Muzumdar. In November 2018, he became the first batsman to score 11,000 runs in the competition. In January 2019, he became the most capped player in Ranji Trophy history with appearance of his 146th match surpassing Madhya Pradesh's Devendra Bundela (145). He was appointed as batting coach for Bangladesh cricket team. In March 2020, he announced his retirement from all forms of cricket. Sairaj Bahutule
Sairaj Bahutule (born 6 January 1973, Bombay, Maharashtra, India) is a former Indian cricketer. He is an allrounder who specializes in leg spin bowling. He played domestic cricket for Mumbai and later on with Vidarbha. Playing career Standout performances, including a 13-wicket match in the Irani Trophy led him to be called into the Indian team in 1997. Syed Abbas Ali (born 20 February 1976), in Indore is a former Indian first class cricketer. He is a left-handed batsman. Ali debuted in 1996/97 and scored his career best score of 251 in the following season. Amol Mazumdar
Amol Anil Muzumdar (born 11 November 1974) was an Indian cricketer, domestically, having previously played for Mumbai and Assam. He was primarily a right-handed batsman. He held the record for the most runs scored in the Ranji Trophy, India's premier domestic first-class cricket competition, breaking the record held by Amarjit Kaypee. Nilesh Moreshwar Kulkarni (born 3 April 1973) is a former Indian cricketer. He is a slow left-arm bowler and left-handed lower order batsman who stood large at 6 ft 6 inches. Kulkarni was one of the many Mumbai players that got picked for India during Sachin Tendulkar's tenure as captain. Kulkarni wrote himself into cricketing history by taking a wicket with the very first ball that he bowled in Test cricket, becoming the first Indian bowler, and the twelfth bowler overall, to do so. Nehru Stadium, formerly known as ''Club of Maharashtra Ground'', is a multi-purpose stadium in Pune, India. It is mainly used for cricket matches. Ramakrishnan Sridhar (born 16 July 1970), commonly known as R Sridhar, is a former Indian first-class cricketer and the former fielding coach of the Indian national cricket team. Surendra Bhave
Surendra Shriram Bhave (born 30 March 1966) is a former Indian first-class cricketer who played for his home state Maharashtra from 1986 to 2001. A right-handed opening batsman, noted for his prolific run scoring and ability to build large innings, Bhave regularly captained Maharashtra throughout the 1990s. Bhave had a strong start to his career, after making just one first-class appearance in both 1986/87 and 1987/88 he made the most of his opportunity in 1988/89 by scoring 730 runs at 91.25. Of his four hundreds that season, the biggest was an innings of 274 which he made against a Dilip Vengsarkar led Bombay team. He would score a further six double hundreds in his career, three of them in 1992. Such was his consistency that it wasn't until 1997/98 that he ended a season with an average under 50 and he never scored less than 800 runs from 1992/93 to 1996/97. Iqbal Siddiqui
Iqbal Siddiqui (born 26 December 1974) is an Indian cricketer. He is a right-handed batsman and a right-arm medium-fast bowler. Having made his debut for Maharashtra in the 1992-93 Ranji Trophy, Siddiqui's frame generates a considerable amount of pace. In spite of his low first-class batting average, he has also once scored a first class century. He played one Test in 2001, against England. England had gained a meager 5 run lead at the start of India's second innings. Captain Saurav Ganguly sent Siddiqui in to bat, even though his regular position was in the tail, and he hit the winning runs in his only ever Test match to date, a record he shares with Australian player Jeff Moss. Despite having played only one Test, Iqbal Siddiqui is the only Indian other than Manoj Prabhakar till date to open both the bowling and batting on debut, in Test matches.
