Iqbal Siddiqui
Iqbal Siddiqui (born 26 December 1974) is an Indian cricketer. He is a right-handed batsman and a right-arm medium-fast bowler. Having made his debut for Maharashtra in the 1992-93 Ranji Trophy, Siddiqui's frame generates a considerable amount of pace. In spite of his low first-class batting average, he has also once scored a first class century. He played one Test in 2001, against England. England had gained a meager 5 run lead at the start of India's second innings. Captain Saurav Ganguly sent Siddiqui in to bat, even though his regular position was in the tail, and he hit the winning runs in his only ever Test match to date, a record he shares with Australian player Jeff Moss. Despite having played only one Test, Iqbal Siddiqui is the only Indian other than Manoj Prabhakar till date to open both the bowling and batting on debut, in Test matches. Test cricket is a form of first-class cricket played at international level between teams representing full member countries of the International Cricket Council (ICC). A match consists of four innings (two per team) and is scheduled to last for up to five days. In the past, some Test matches had no time limit and were called Timeless Tests. First-class Cricket
First-class cricket, along with List A cricket and Twenty20 cricket, is one of the highest-standard forms of cricket. A first-class match is one of three or more days' scheduled duration between two sides of eleven players each and is officially adjudged to be worthy of the status by virtue of the standard of the competing teams. Matches must allow for the teams to play two innings each, although in practice a team might play only one innings or none at all. The etymology of "first-class cricket" is unknown, but it was used loosely before it acquired official status in 1895, following a meeting of leading English clubs. Cricket
Cricket is a bat-and-ball game played between two teams of eleven players on a field at the centre of which is a pitch with a wicket at each end, each comprising two bails balanced on three stumps. The batting side scores runs by striking the ball bowled at one of the wickets with the bat and then running between the wickets, while the bowling and fielding side tries to prevent this (by preventing the ball from leaving the field, and getting the ball to either wicket) and dismiss each batter (so they are "out"). Means of dismissal include being bowled, when the ball hits the stumps and dislodges the bails, and by the fielding side either catching the ball after it is hit by the bat, but before it hits the ground, or hitting a wicket with the ball before a batter can cross the crease in front of the wicket. Ranji Trophy
The Ranji Trophy (also known as Mastercard Ranji Trophy for sponsorship reasons) is a domestic first-class cricket championship played in India between multiple teams representing regional and state cricket associations. Board of Control for Cricket in India founded Ranji trophy in 1935, since then it is annually organised across various grounds and stadiums in India. The competition currently consists of 38 teams, with all 28 states in India and four of the eight union territories having at least one representation. The competition is named after Ranjitsinhji who is the first Indian cricketer who played international cricket, he was also known as 'Ranji'. Jeff Moss (cricketer)
Jeffrey Kenneth Moss (born 29 June 1947) is a former Australian cricketer who played in one Test matches and one One Day International (ODI) in 1979. An opening batsman, Moss made his first-class cricket debut for Victoria in 1976/77 and was a steady contributor for Victoria without attracting the interest of national selectors until Australia lost many of its leading players to World Series Cricket (WSC). Moss was picked for the last Test of the 1978–79 series against Pakistan. However he was not selected for the subsequent 1979 tour of India, and dropped out of contention altogether when the WSC players returned to test cricket for the summer of 1979–80. Moss along with Julien Wiener had a partnership of 390 at the Junction Oval against Western Australia in 1981–82. Manoj Prabhakar
Manoj Prabhakar (born 15 April 1963) is a former Indian cricketer and Coach, who recently coached Nepal National Cricket Team. He was a right-arm medium-pace bowler and a lower-order batsman, and has also opened the innings sometimes for the Indian cricket team until his retirement in 1996. Prabhakar took 96 wickets in Test cricket, 157 wickets in One Day Internationals, and over 385 first class wickets playing for Delhi. He has also played for Durham. Prabhakar would always be remembered for his bowling which was his strongest suit; using slower balls, out swingers and opening the bowling for Indian cricket team. One Test Wonder
In cricket, a one-Test wonder is usually a cricketer who is only selected for one Test match during his career and never represents his country again. This is not necessarily due to a poor performance and can be for numerous reasons, such as injury or strong competition from other players. The term is also used in rugby. More rarely, the term may refer to a player who has played in more than one Test, but was very successful only once. Examples include the bowlers Narendra Hirwani of India and Bob Massie of Australia, both of whom took eight wickets in each innings of their debut matches, but then failed to live up to their early promise.
