The 1996 Oceanian Futsal Championship (OFC) was the second edition of the main international futsal tournament of the Oceanian region. It took place from August 3 to August 8, 1996, and was hosted by Port Vila, Vanuatu. The tournament also acted as a qualifying tournament for the 1996 FIFA Futsal World Championship in Spain. The Australia won the tournament, and qualified for the World Cup. The 1992 Oceanian Futsal Championship (OFC) was the first edition of the main international futsal tournament of the Oceanian region. It took place from Jun 15 to Jun 20, 1992, and was hosted by Brisbane, Australia. The tournament also acted as a qualifying tournament for the 1992 FIFA Futsal World Championship in Hong Kong. Oceanian Futsal Championship
The OFC Futsal Championship is the main national futsal competition of the Oceania Football Confederation (OFC) nations. It was first held in 1992. The competition was initially held every four years. From 2008 onwards, however, it became an annual tournament. Australia won every edition of the competition until it left the Oceania Football Confederation in 2006. Solomon Islands have won the three editions of the tournament which have taken place since then - including a decisive 8-1 victory over Fiji in the final of the 2009 edition. It is a qualification for the FIFA Futsal World Cup. The original name was the OFC Futsal Championship, from 2019, the tournament will be known as the OFC Futsal Nations Cup. Port Vila (french: Port-Vila), or simply Vila (; french: Vila; bi, Vila ), is the capital and largest city of Vanuatu. It is located on the island of Efate. Its population in the last census (2009) was 44,040, an increase of 35% on the previous census result (29,356 in 1999). Australia National Futsal Team
The Australia National Futsal Team represents Australia in men's international futsal. The team is controlled by the governing body for soccer in Australia, Football Australia, which is currently a member of both the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) and the regional ASEAN Football Federation (AFF) since leaving the Oceania Football Confederation (OFC) in 2006. The team's official nickname is the ''Futsalroos''. Australia is a five-time OFC champion. The team has represented Australia at the FIFA Futsal World Cup tournaments on 7 occasions, but have never advanced beyond the group stage of the competition.
